Beneteau First 36 Sailing Test

The premiere test sail of Beneteau First 36. The sailing yacht is a great result of synergy between Seascape, the Beneteau branch in Slovenia and top architects and designers.

In 2017, the Beneteau group acquired Seascape, the Slovenian shipyard specialized in the construction of One-Design and dinghy sailboats.
In its new facilities in Slovenia, Seascape is now building the entire First line up to 40 ft in length. At the present time, the longest model is First 36.

I know it is not really in the design brief for a boat in this class but I can't help but wish it had a square top main and enough backstay clearance to make that work. Obviously it would completely miss the target market to want running backstays instead of the fixed backstay, but I feel it would help make the boat more performance-oriented than it looks in standard configuration. Otherwise, it looks very nice. Love the hull shape and I'm sure it is very roomy and comfortable below deck.

I heared they will make a more performance oriented version, with a square top and carbon mast

@@reto_scherrer ...still no stay then. Carbon is the usual way to avoid a backstay

@@fabienh3943 - You're correct but if I was going offshore in this boat I would want runners. I know Sam avoided them on the Seascape 27, but for a boat this size, in performance mode, I would go with runners even for a carbon rig (and particularly with the masthead kite).

@@fabienh3943 a pogo 36 is at 85 or so disp/lenght , first 36 is 120 or so. sa/disp on upwind setup is nearly the same (around 30)...but the interior of a 36 is 50 million times nicer than a pogo and the speed difference in medium/hard winds (not low winds) wont be that different anywhere above 120 awa. upwind im sure the first is quicker. i own a first 27 i know these boats...search videos and you will see the 36 planning.
