This was the game of shame for Benfica, UEFA, and the Spanish referee. I hope the theatrical display of this game, is a lesson for the generations to come and for the UEFA fair play.

Uefa responded with uncharacteristic harshness: the second leg was annulled and Partizani were thrown out of Europe for the next four seasons and the offending players received lengthy bans.
