Best comparison i have seen between Isak and Haaland is, when Manchester City is fully functional, Haaland is a better striker, he scores out of nothing, but Isak is a better all rounder, especially for someone with his height and frame and he is more involved in build up play and can play on the wing if needed

Ben, nobody is saying Bradley is as good as Trent. Out of the 3 contracts running out, Trent is most likely the player you can replace if one was to go because Salah is the best RW in the world and Virgil is the best defender. Trent is more replaceable in that position than Mo and Virgil. Us Liverpool fans want all 3 contracts signed obviously.

Bradley, imo, is a bit different to Trent, I think he’s the same as Robertson. But I agree, Bradley is amazing and he’s also free because he’s from the academy
@paulie-g7 күн бұрын
@@jamesgrannum3736 Of course he's different, there's no RB that has TAA's profile in world football. The thing is, it does look like Slot's playstyle might, on balance, benefit from a more defensively reliable RB. Yes, no one else passes like that from rightback, but you can absolutely sign a midfielder who can pass, and even have him do it from the positions TAA inverts into, if that's what you want (which I'm not sure Slot does most of the time). You're also selling Bradley a bit short - he's much more direct than Robbo and capable of scoring. I've long felt our fullbacks don't score enough. Thing is, we're not short on creativity, and when we are, eg against low blocks, TAA doesn't necessarily unlock that either, but every team targets him and our whole defence gets pulled one over covering for him, we constantly concede from crosses he's nowhere near close enough to preventing or putting pressure on, and it's exposing whoever is at our far post, which is usually a non aerially dominant LB in Robbo or Tsimikas. He's the #1 source of our positional tension, and Gravenberch isn't defensively-minded enough to help him. We could sign a bonafide DM to play the 6, but out of Gravenberch and TAA, Gravenberch is much more key to how Slot wants to play and our success with it. TAA does a hollywood ball that comes off once or twice each game, Grav turns his man and carries the ball taking out the entire front press of the opposition many, many times each game.

VVD, Gomez and Konate (in that order) are capable of playing big, splitting forward passes from the back. Yes, doing it from RB/inverted is a neat way to create danger that teams rarely face and often don't know how to handle (and there isn't a great way to handle it anyway), but that's not valuable enough to give up our newfound defensive solidity, which we will need if we want to win CL.

Very easy to tell fullbacks not to jump to press Liverpool's fullbacks unless they're a couple seconds away for example. Slot makes similar adjustments *within games*. Klopp pulled himself together, forced himself to let go of some of his favourite people, rebuilt the midfield, and only then announced he was leaving once he was sure everything was in proper order again. So you could say Pep is intending to do the same - he's quoted as saying he wouldn't leave his team in this state - but failing atm because he can't even get his lavishly compensated players to at least match the opposition's workrate. Having a billion pounds worth of players underperform Southampton under Russell "Poundland Pep" Martin (who clearly prioritised his reputation for playing 'progressive' football over keeping the club that pay his wages up) is an achievement of which few managers in world football are capable.

I don't think they're saying to abandon his style and play Pulisball, but there are moments in games - like when you've just clawed back 2-1 despite being comprehensively battered and have a few minutes to go to half time, and moments in seasons - like when you're missing 4 of your first choice back 5 and are playing two kids out of position in it, when it is wise to make some adjustments. Telling your fullbacks to tuck in for a few minutes instead of executing an ineffective high press is hardly too conservative to be tolerated. Having a game model that's nuanced enough to take game state into account is not weakness or evidence you're not convinced of your principles. These are pros who understand game state and momentum viscerally. And then you have the counterexample of Slot - an attacking coach - who has injected a massive amount of control, stability, in-game management and rest defence at Liverpool without losing attacking impetus and, in fact, adding another string to Liverpool's bow in clever, technical build-up through the centre, and is benefitting from it. Liverpool are now a textbook example that you can play expressive, attacking football without being suicidally open, ie play attractive football with maturity, balance, resting in the game when possible, and with tactical variability and adaptability that a) allows them to exploit the opposition's weaknesses on a game by game basis, and b) prevents the opposing manager from being able to tell how they're going to play with 100% confidence well ahead of the game. I distinctly recall Ancelotti saying he knew exactly what Klopp and Liverpool were going to do in a post-match presser after one of the CL finals they won. At the absolute top level, having a coach who's got more than one tactical idea in his head is an advantage.
@John-zs5nw4 күн бұрын
On Rashford, he needs a coach/manager like Eddie or Unai though would reqire a major pay cut and don't feel either team has a need for him (so would be a luxury buy) so he won't go there but those are the types of coaches he needs as the team cultures there and the play style would suit him better.

@paulie-g6 күн бұрын
The thing is, Liverpool still had a solid tactical structure, they just no longer had players who could execute the playstyle reliably. Spurs without the ball are just an incoherent mess - their press is very active and high energy, but it's not actually that effective, the team loses all shape and structure when running back towards their own goal, no one knows where to be etc. This is just bad coaching. Very big difference between everyone knowing what to do and where to be but the system failing because a few players are a second late, and no one knowing where to be and 'what to do' = 'run a lot and look like you're trying hard'. It's a bit like that luxury car Geely built in the 2010s that looked like someone who saw a Rolls Royce once described it to them over the phone, badly, in broken Chinese. Spurs look like that wrt Klopp's early Liverpool sides. They push their fullbacks high, but it's clear they don't know why they're doing it, because if they did, they would either already be there in the high press or fall back, instead they try to get there even if there's 0 chance they'll get there in time, vacating space behind them. Their front press is disjointed because they don't have a reliable system of pressing triggers everyone knows. And so on.

The truth is with that Liverpool squad VS that injury depleted Spurs squad they were never going to win. So should they have parked the bus for 90 minutes and end up losing 0-3? Or do you give it a right go and lose 3-6? To Dare Is To Do? To Dare Is To Park The Bus? These are the same England fans screaming at Southgate to attack, attack attack and stop sitting back so much, dare to win! Southgate said NO and preferred defence over attack. But of all of sudden Ange is a joke of a manager for wanting to dare and attack?
@legoc3po4508 күн бұрын
There’s a difference between parking the bus and having a defensive structure. Spurs got back into that game at 2-1 (albeit a bit luckily), and should’ve looked to keep that score line into half time, where ange could talk to them, make some tweaks and let them know they had 45 minutes to get at least 1 more back. Instead they kept that high line which allowed that little szoboszlai sink header to so easily find salah and pretty much kill any hope spurs had going into the half. And southgates criticism lay heavily in the fact that they had and still have one of the most talented line ups of individual players in world football but can’t/choose not to score goals, relying on 1-0 victories. Imagine if guardiolas man city played like southgates England team? You’d call for change. Sean Dyche’s Everton though, you can understand it, because they don’t have the players to play like a man city. Personnel makes a big difference when it comes to tactics, but ange sticks to his guns regardless of personnel available. Yes he had injuries, but work around them. If you’re going to lose, don’t let 6 go past you. Slot, for example, in the league cup played loads of the academy boys. The overall game plan was still very controlled, but you could see (especially in the midfield) that he wasn’t expecting nyoni or Morton to fill the gravenberch or szobo role. Shoe horning players into roles they’re not fit for, or setting up your team in a way that you’re not experienced enough for , is a recipe for disaster, even MORE so when that game plan disregards defense.

No, he's a joke because his game model has 0 nuance. You can make subtle tweaks to positioning, rest defence, pressing triggers, distances between players etc to give you more or slightly less risk without compromising your approach. Liverpool, despite being top of the league and comfortably better than Spurs, didn't think it was cowardly or below them to tailor their approach to exploit Spurs' weaknesses, because they have a coach who trained that tactical variability in preseason and can call on it at will now, even tweaking mid-game. Why would Villa want Grealish back? At this point he's a Temu version of Rogers.
@paulie-g6 күн бұрын
Not even that, a completely different player who doesn't fit the way Villa play now, couldn't play Rogers' position and appears to have been thoroughly ruined by Pep (and possibly a bit too satisfied with living in a castle on 300+k pw).

Trust me we understand Bradley isn’t the next Trent however, if we could only give two new contracts Salah and VVD are literally irreplaceable
@madness80538 күн бұрын
Bradley is a baller and does bits when trent is injured or needs a rest
@paulie-g6 күн бұрын
@madness8053 Well, last season our points per game was much better with Bradley than TAA, goals and xG minus goals allowed and xGA were much better with Bradley on as well. TAA has improved this season (presumably as he understands he won't get scouse discount on sh-t defending at Madrid), but Bradley is more than just a capable understudy and probably suits Slot's playstyle more. You never want to let a player go when they have some world-class attributes (as TAA's passing sometimes/often is), but I dare say we could find a midfielder with a high quality long passing profile if we wanted to and play a fullback who can actually defend reliably when he goes.

Do we think that injury stricken spurs first 11 gets battered by that Liverpool team regardless of what tactics Ange goes with

Players are overpaid today. I can't believe what I'm hearing from top leagues around the world. Players not playing for the glory, fans and the happines for being a top player. Hearing the same from the NBA and MLB. Players being paid tens of millions and can't be bothered to play in every game.

Haaland was a very versatile striker at Dortmund. Guardiola has turned him one dimensional and as the system fails around him he is starved of service.
@og877 күн бұрын
One man yes in Rodri but it’s also the half or less behind him. That kovacic is bad and always has been I don’t care what people say he’s done in games or in a part seasons. And NUNES is even worse. Get rid of both. 38:59

Spurs play a high risk high reward style. They also have their starting goalkeeper, both starting centrebacks and starting left back out. Whatever style they play, defensive solidity is going to be a problem. Imagine arsenal with saliba, gabriel, califiori and raya gone. They would conceed a lot more goals too.
@Gunjack14407 күн бұрын
Not really because the tactics shift. The high line of ange only works if van de wen is fit. He’s a great CB, but he’s injury prone.
@paulie-g6 күн бұрын
But Arteta did tweak things to adapt when they had players out or were down a man. Ange seems to think being brainless and having a game model with 0 nuance or variability is a badge of honour

Enough. Got some Wolfey fan watching his team fight relegation and fighting people, elbowing and snatching glasses one week calling them embarrassing. This week bigging Cunha up because he wasn't banned (why wasn't he?). Constantly hoping for Isak to signing for Arsenal? Sorry, what affiliation does he have to Arsenal to want that? Or let's big up Myles Lewis-Skelly who has played a few games and he is apparently first choice LB for England for the next 10 years and yet Lewis Hall has been cementing that for the whole season.

You guys always get so carried away. You just know that the next time Liverpool drop points they’ll be saying Chelsea or Arsenal are gonna win it 🤣
@paulie-g6 күн бұрын
They might, but this impression (at least for me) isn't really about the score or the result - Liverpool have been winning without hitting top gear and playing 9/10 or 10/10, you could see they were looking for another gear to get into, this game it just clicked. Their play (forget them exploiting Spurs with balls over the top or the fast breaks they were always capable of since early Klopp) through the middle in build-up was just a complete joy to watch. The only remaining question is if they can now shift into that gear reliably (in other words, that it wasn't a one-off) when they need to.

@@Andy-tq3omyeah but KDB has been on and off the pitch with several injuries for the last 3 years. Don’t get me wrong he’s an excellent visionary, but they’ve had trouble lately with the low block and counter attacks. KDB seems like he doesn’t have the legs anymore. He needs to adapt his play style or he’s done at the top level.

Haaland doesn't score much in 5-6 games and everybody is better than him 😂😂 today's medias and society in a nutshell. And it's funny how when City doesn't win, it's ALWAYS Haaland's fault. Always. It's crazy. He guy is the finisher. If there's nothing behind, he doesn't score. That's it. Van Nistlerooy wouldn't score if there was nothing behind him. Same with any finisher.
