Freight equal charges policy and subsequently removing manbhum district from bengal was a devastating reason. Although we got back purulia but majority of resources went out of bengal. Industrialists from west india took advantage of this policy by buying raw materials at the same rate at which factories of calcutta bought. Bengal government did not protest against this policy which was a blunder. If companies got raw materials at same rate even if they are far from the source, they will set up factory on the west coast for the ease of exporting to the western countries.

The three guiding stars of the current political dispensation at the Centre are all from Bengal; Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose on the political front, Swami Vivekanada on the spiritual front and Ravindranath Tagore on the cultural front. @@amitpaul6109I don't what world you are living in. A lot of things have been built post independence. Entire Salt Lake. The state is a surplus producer of electricity. Lot of industrial projects have started over the last few years, and many are in progress. Kolkata doesn't have nearly the same infrastructural issues as Bangalore. No safety problems like Delhi. It has a higher GDP than Bangalore, Hyderabad. For women, Kolkata is still by far the safest metro. I can understand comparing Kolkata to Mumbai or Chennai - but both the cities (and Bangalore) benefited from favorable central government policies and targeted investments. But Kolkata has improved a lot since the early 2000s, and it is getting better. And there is now even a small startup scene (with some pretty good companies). Bengal has had among highest MSME growth in last few years in the country. We have much larger issues than Bengal the state - there are terrible central govt policies since 2009 or so around tax terrorism and not allowing or killing new industries - that's what is holding the country back as a whole.

I want to share about my experience of starting a service office in Kolkata. I applied for GST online and it took 10 days for them to reply. Now the problem began. The local GST office replied with email wanting unnecessary documents which are only required during purchase of property or mutation. Then they wanted proof of electricity meter installation even after submitting electricity bill. Lastly they wanted a map of my office which is on 2nd floor of an apartment. I submitted Google Map and Mouza map(stamped) which didn't work because they could not see the 2nd floor on google map and Govt. maps don't have images of buildings. Ultimately rejected. I always got harassed at every Govt. office for paperwork. I left for Noida and got my job done there. The day is not far WB will look like Somalia. Already you can see 3/4 of all beggars in West Bengal.😢

The land revenue department doesn't let you easily change the 200 years old land classification. That means if your land was an agricultural land 200 years back but now it is urban with all the buildings and apartments. I am a bengali. I left Bengal in 1996 after I failed to get a job in Bengal for a long time after my graduation. I moved to Delhi and settled there. I appreciate Aditya Saini for the detailed and informative video on the decline of Bengal. I have seen how the factories employing hundreds of people got closed in our state during the communist rule in the 80s and 90s. People were encouraged to attack rich people and snatch there properties. Acres of land were captured by the left front goons. The left government actually encouraged this in the name serving the poor. When TMC got to power, I hoped for change for the better. But they only worsened the situation. These days hardly any educated and capable Bengali stays there. Mostly move out to other states or out of the country. TMC has adoped a shameless approach of providing full state backing to Bangladeshis who enter the state illegally and get all necessary government IDs and faclilties in a very short time. Mamata Bannerjee knows this tactic is necessary to keep herself in power for long. State jay bhar me. Her only aim is to hold on to power. It's sad that even well educated people keep voting for her for their own interests. If they do not wake up and throw out TMC government, West Bengal will soon be worse than the Bihar of Lalu ragime. I am a Bengali and I was born and bred in South Kolkata. Now, let me tell you something this is going to be a bit lengthy however if you read the entire comment you would be able to get the message I have tried to spread you will then be able to see it from a different perspective. In Kolkata you will find everything but not jobs this is the reason why most of the people get relocated to other cities. It is really hard to get a job here because there are not many corporate companies that are here unlike other cities like Hyderabad, Bangalore, Gurgaon, Pune and NCR Region. Working in a corporate sector means the salary that a corporate employee gets is due to outsourcing the business so basically the money is coming from abroad and since most of the people are leaving Kolkata for a job and relocating to other cities therefore the people who are from Bengal are currently staying and earning as well as spending in that city which is obviously helping the GDP of that particular state to grow. During the Pandemic there were a lot of people who lost their job due to COVID-19. However on the other hand there were also so a lot of people who got jobs because most of the companies who all are located in cities like Bangalore, Hyderabad, Gurgaon, Pune were offering jobs which can be worked from home. People who cannot relocate to other cities due any reason and are jobless due to the less infrastructure and less availability of the corporate companies in Kolkata could now work from home for the companies which are located outside Kolkata and as previously mentioned the salary which they were getting from abroad by working in an MNC company were being spent in the city of Kolkata. The only way to make an immediate effect on the GDP of Kolkata can be done only if all the companies located in the other cities start offering work from home, that way people who are jobless in Kolkata could earn money and spend in the city which will impact as an improvement of its GDP. The more you spend in the city the better it is for its growth. That is how every sector works, even if you look at it from the tourism perspective it is believed that the more tourist visits a particular place the better it will grow, look at Dubai, Singapore, they all have built their empires in such a short time span because these countries are tourist oriented and attracts tourists therefore they were able to grow because the tourists bring money and spend it in the city. Similarly the example I gave of employment through work from home is legit and can be implemented. Let me know in the comments below if my analysis is wrong or if you have any better ideas to spare.

@@aditya7321 I think you haven't got my point. It's not that I want to work from home. I would love to work from the office because I believe working from the office gives you a lot of exposure to your work. You get to meet with your colleagues. It is way better than working from home. I believe hybrid models are the best because in that way you get time for yourself as well as you get time for work too. But my concern is something different, the only reason I mentioned working from home in my comment is because in Kolkata there are not many companies. So only if the companies located outside Kolkata could offer working from home then people living in Kolkata who cannot relocate could actually get work which suits their skillset and meet their salary expectations.

People who are working in industries and require their presence to get the production of the goods done they cannot get work from home however mostly in corporate companies we do a desk job and it doesn't really require to be present at the onsite field throughout the time therefore work from home can easily be given to the employees. I believe that also saves a lot of employer cost in running the business and a smooth workflow can easily be maintained. I hope I was able to answer your query.
