Original composition by Pundit Hrudaynath Mangeshkar in 1967. In those days , due to low budget, only Santoor was used as a major prelude interlude music.

@RituPMToMusic2011 : Though music has no language, we need to maintain the facts straight. The Marathi song "Tinhi sanja" , is much older than this Bengali song. The music composition was an original creation by Pt Hridayanath Mangeshkar (Lata di's brother) in mid 70's for the Marathi Poem conceived by the poet BR Tambe in 1936. Anyways, I must confess I equally loved the Bengali rendition of the song.. happy listening !

Here is my analysis, being a Bengali myself why some numbers like this one sounds so extremely sweet and beautiful than others. It is a perfect combination of an extremely beautiful composition based on certain Raga rendered in Lataji's extremely sweet and beautiful and voice (very well-trained in classical music - song like Mose chal kiye ja in Guide) and last but not the least in a sweet language. I can bet this same song in someone else's voice not close to Lataji will not sound this good.

Despite being Marathi i love bangali ... there is no point in comparing the sister languages ..and.Lataji is Lataji .. She is Marathi and every music lover respects her, no matter of what language and geography. So far as this song is concerned, This song in Bengali is also EQUALLY good as in original Marathi. The evening -- hours Raaga like Pooriya or Maarwa are the same in both songs. The only difference being that the contents of the poetry is very much different ..if only had u understood Marathi Poetry of Bha. Raa. Tambe, a poet. The mood of the song is drastically changed in Bengali . but does it matter ? Salil Chawdhary had made several versions of Bengali songs into Hindi songs for movies ... the poetry of the songs in Bengali was not retained in Hindi cine songs, only tunes were same .. But this one is not a Marathi Movie song,. nor is this song in any Bangali movie. But, to my mind, the poetry and mood of Marathi song could have been retained in Bangali ..In fact there are good number of people who have a mastery over both languages and a good translation was not impossible. But then what is fuss about it if it is not done ?

Don't know who wrote the Bengali version but this is not a translation. In fact I don't see much similarity in the two poems at all...
