The foundation stone for the Bengaluru-Mysuru expressway was laid in 2018 and it took almost five years for operations to start.This 118 kms expressway cuts the travel time between Bengaluru and Mysuru from three hours to 75-90 minutes. This ambitious project certainly has its share of benefits, but is it really commuter-friendly?

Expressways are different from highways. The idea is to board at your starting point and directly get down at your destination real fast. This report obfuscates the difference between the two and makes it appear as if there are a lack of public conveniences. The lack of hotels argument is ludicrous especially considering the less than 90 min journey time, its a bit like saying that the metro rails lack public utility because they don't have vending machines or pantry cars.

Why chop the wings of people along the road for the cost cutting and convenience of people travelling between cities ? I am not getting why people are saying that the road has no hotels , restaurants and all...... Express ways are meant to travel in a short duration, so if they want to stop at hotels and restaurants what is the use of express way? Some complain about the lack of puncture shops and washroom facilities , wait till the work completes. If you think toll free is high , car pooling is suggested for you, it even reduces pollution also.

This is an expressway and one is supposed to complete the journey in max 1.5 hrs. So ideally one doesn't need to provide too many facilities except emergency services. Restuarants and other amenities can be provided at entry and exits. Else there is no difference between an expressway and a highway.

If someone understands what expressway is, this video is obsolete. Hotels by the side of the road does not make it an "Express Way". Accidents are due to rash driving of the people who doesn't care about lane discipline and overloaded trucks on the right side of the road. agree with what you've mentioned but here's the catch. 1. quality of service roads are not good as a highway plus it's not continuous along the entire stretch. 2. around the world expressways do have rest facilities at certain distances. You don't go to a hotel or washroom to enjoy your time. You go there to have food and relieve yourself and it should be made available along the highway with proper entry and exits. 3. Indians are bad when it comes to road manners and driving ethics.

No matter which road you travel on, places like restaurants and restrooms are mandatory as they are places where a fatigued driver can stop and recuperate. In fact, if you’ve actually read driving manuals, they always recommend drivers to stop and pull over to a safe spot if he/she is feeling tired or drowsy. Having a road with no rest stops for more than 100 kms is dangerous.

If u pay toll at Kengeri u don’t have to pay at the second toll. The fee will not be deducted on Fastag. The second toll is for the vehicles that join expressway midway from the other route.

So according to you, expressways need not have functioning service roads, need not even have restaurants. Must be the first expressway I’ve heard about that do not have these features. Blind fanatic allegiance to political parties and ideologies will lead to the downfall of this country. We should all be open to criticism because only then will we improve. Expressways are designed to ensure the free flow of vehicles at high speeds. However this does not limit them from not having slower lanes that open up to service road and refreshment or restroom facilities. A fatigued driver is a danger to himself and other vehicles and he should have a place to rest and take a break. That is a mandated safety requirement in expressways.

The highway opens up on the NICE road which is a private road costing 200 Rs and then it’s another 135 Rs to travel on this one. Remember we are talking about a project that cost 8000 crores and more than 5 years to complete. In all that time, the service roads haven’t been completed and no one thought of even opening up a makeshift pit stop so fatigued drivers can stop and rest. For a project of this scale, it is important to nitpick, it is important to know who got the contract and how the money was spent.

We Maharashtrians has been paying more than this... I have travelled via my car from Pune to Bengaluru... It was 1350 kms... 4 tolls in MH and 9 tolls in KA... For 4 tolls in MH, price was approx 550 ... And for 9 tolls in KA, it was 750...seriously , we are always paying more than anywhere else in India...

The journey entire journey is for 75 mintues, what do you requires a hotel and teashop for? I think the idea of expressways is still catching up with people. The Nehru outer ring road in Hyderabad does not have any teashops, hotels or petrol bunks on the road but people have understood on how to use it. The presence of accidents, hospitals or emergency services is a valid consideration that must be looked into. Another consideration is that expressways provide amazing mileage unlike normal highways. Highways provide around 18 kmph, where as we get 20-22 (even 25kmph if you drive very consistently) in expressways such as Nehru Ring Road in Hyderabad. So the calculation considering distance 120 km, Petrol rate of Rs.110/liter - Highways : Mileage = 18kmph; Toll = Rs.80; Total cost = (120/18*110) + 80 = Rs. 813 Expressways : Mileage = 22 kmph; Toll = Rs.135; Total Cost = (120/22*110) + 135 = Rs. 735 So, over long distance people save more money on fuel and large amount of time as well! Win-win!

This is what happens when you build an expressway in a country full of dual carriageways. Expressways are supposed to be no nonsense A To B travel roads in a short time and distance. The same journey in existing national highway is twice as long and takes twice the time, hence the toll is high in expresway. Cause fuel and time saving compared to existing National highways. If people want to go to hotels and stop for food and all, existing national highways go through many major townships. Although food and refreshments along the journey was understandable when the journey took 2-3 hrs long. But for a 70 mins trip. NHAI has plans of opening wayside amenitie, of course vehicles need fuel, So fuel stations will open along the expressway and with that there are going to be food and beverages shops. It's just a new idea in New India it'll take time for people to adapt. And Tolls are there forever ♾️.

For more than half of the state cost is more important than time Forcing everyone to pay such high tolls for a road they freely used until 4 years ago is shameful. 4 lane road with wide shoulders provided free is being tolled heavily for upgrade into 6 lane road. People complaining High toll prices ? No Restaurants ? Fail to understand this is a expressway. Not a Highway. The main purpose here is to reach the destination within a short period of time with less hassle at higher speeds comparitively. Finally a place to drive where there are no slow moving 150 cc motorcycles who ride on the right most lane at 55kmph without helmet and a auto dude coming in the opposite direction with high beams pn the left most lane !!

What a regressive group we are collectively. NHAI collecting toll of 135 to go to Bidadi is unacceptable, but I'm surprised by a man saying there is just road nothing else and this isnt safe.. also the anchor saying the speed limit of 120 is causing accident.. Our people are generally anti development and anti change, everyone wants to pee by the corner of the road, take a dump in the bushes, throw garbage randomly etc, when some structure is enforced everyone will suddenly have a problem. Again, i'm with everyone that NHAI shud not collect toll till the work is completly done. But I just dont get our peoples regressive mindset at all.

Expressway should be constructed to reduce the distance and time between two destinations. The older route which was planned by NICE could have served the real purpose .but due to agricultural land, the plan was dropped. But now the expansion of extra lanes along the already existing 4lane state highway and constructing byepasses to all the towns doesn't make the sense of Expressway. For instance Bengaluru-Chennai expressway is about to construct. The land acquisition has been done via surrounding villages of hoskote, malur, Bangarapet, kgf, vkota , palamner,ranipet, sri perambudur. The distance between BLR-CHN has been reduced and the route is almost straight compared to usual Kolar-chittoor highway/ hosur-krishnagiri-vellore highway. Bengaluru - mysuru highway should have been like usual highways like tumkur highway, hassan highway. Its not about the people who doesn't accept the modern developments. Its about practicality of exact situation according to location.

Agreed that people must only be charged for the length of road used and not a full flat rate, also agree on rest rooms and amenities. But streetlights are a stretch. Streetlights are only installed within city limits, not across the entire stretch of an expressway. No country does that barring a few anomalies.

you guys want everything from hospitals, hotels motels petrol pump shops etc all ready at once , I mean what kind of logic is this ,these amenities takes time to build , few months later these facilities will be there ,it takes time to settle everything, don't criticize just for sake of it ,anyway who builds hospital near expressway btw , my suggestion would government should reduce toll charges, I also thing toll charges are a but too high, it should be somewhere around 70 -100 ,that would be justified cuz the reduction of travel time , just for now olease lower the price until all the amenities and construction are completed fully then charge it

Restaurants, on routes , dhabas are not required on Highways like this when they are expected to complete the journey in 1.5 hrs .... Tolls are required for highways for maintenance ... This video doesn't make sense ...all highways in IS have toll booths ...I mean seriously !!!!

I drive a lot in Canada, if you get into an vehicle breakdown, there’s no help for hours in minus 50 weather. Stop complaining. Hold on from peeing for an hour and going at 140 kmph is safe if your vehicle is fit. Distracted driving and driving unfit vehicles with Chinese tyres having low speed rating is the issue. 118 km in 140 speed will be an hour journey.

It’s an expressway, it’s supposed to have max speed at least 120kmph speed, he’ll according to me it should be 140kmph. The issue is not speed, it’s how everyone gets a driving license even without knowing how to drive, and they are the ones who cause majority of the accidents. There is also no efficient and corrupt free system to enforce upon these license issuance process.
