Been there, and I got no extra money to buy a new keyboard. I fully washed my keyboard on water. Dried it outside, it got rained on, I had to clean it again, got rained on again, clean it again, just dried it inside for a whole freakin' week. I only got a keyboard I had like a decade ago to use for that week. Thank god for for custom keyboards. Fun times.

My personal rules for desk-eating: Dry snacks only, non-moisturizing wet wipes because crumbs and grease stains on my M/Kb and controllers is like a personal purgatory, water bottle and open cans go on the side table or the ground. Also looks cleaner when I gotta webcam up for meetings. I've learned my lesson the hard way years ago...

I just never eat anything with water near my laptop and watch a stream and wash my hands after finishing. Also helps if you get a tumblr or something so there is little chance of it spilling. NEVER access your keyboard or mouse during eating, its just a matter of time before accidents happen.
