My father lived with Beniamino Gigli in his Villa in Rome during Word War II. My dad (South African) recorded many of his songs, sad to say, I only have some WWII diaries and not even the photo Gigli signed 'Cordially Yours' to my father!!! Sad about that!!

From the 1941 film "Mamma", it was filmed at the Cinecittà Studios, Rome, Italy. The outdoor scenes shown in the above clip was stock & staged film taken aboard the 1931 built, 48,502 grt express Italian passenger liner "Conte Di Savoia", during her prime. After the ship made her last commercial voyage she was laid up in June 1940 near Venice until 1943. Afterwards became a Italian troopship. She was sunk in shallow water at Venice by British bombers on September 11, 1943, re-floated on October 16, 1945, sold and scrapped at Monfalcone in 1950.

Concordo,fez parte da trilha Internacional da Novela Vida Nova de 1988/1989 de Benedito Ruy Barbosa,Mamma - Beniamino Gigli era tema do personagem Antônio Sapateiro (Carlos Zara) ,a novela era de época e se passava na década na São Paulo de 1945. A maioria das músicas da trilha Internacional eram Italianas,havia uma hebraica,uma em inglês e uma portuguesa. A trilha Nacional também era um primor! A abertura era Nada Além do Nelson Gonçalves!

Hi Rina (Cole) what a co-incidence! My Dad also met him during his time with the sixth div in Rome. I watched him do a performance at our Alhambra Theatre in Cape Town (1952 only five years before his passing) He kindly arranged for me to watch his 2nd show the following night from the wings! AND HE SANG MAMMA SPECIALLY FOR ME! This clip therefore brought tears to my 86 year-old eyes!!

My Mother took me to see this movie when I was a little boy. Think it was the Dante movie theater in South Philly. Remember tears running down her face. Her mother died when my mother was 8 years old -- the flu epidemic of 1918. Seventy-five years later I still remember and now this song brings tears to my eyes. Thank you for posting it.
