My dog does that too (the indication with line of sight). He also sits at the back door to go out and if we don't see him he walks in front of the tv doing a lap of the lounge room to get our attention. The awesome part is that I did not train this behaviour in him. He just grew to fit in our home dynamic. We communicate with one another. It is really common for dogs to do this when they are around their humans a lot. Also, to get food, he has to fist bump or high five us, so if he wants what we're eating he'll sit at our feet and tap our foot. He gets so upset when we tell him "no" but he just goes off and sulks for a bit. If he has been really good and not bothered us we get him a small treat and give it to him on his mat :)

Back in summer 1971, I saved a tortoise who was lying upside down on a two lane stretch in Arizona. Hot as hell outside, I was driving my VW bug, no AC. Took him about 50 feet away from the road. Held him up to look at his underside and he pooped on my t-shirt. Had to drive 50 miles before I could clean it off at a gas station. This was waaaay before the days of bottled water. If you were thirsty for water, you had to stop and drink out of a fountain, something nobody would do today! :-)
