My heart breaks for this man. I’m an alcoholic and I’m a pharmacist but for anyone out there that struggles with alcoholism: please take thiamin and folic acid. You can get them at most drug stores or vitamin shops. Alcohol depletes you of thiamin and causes his sickness which is Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome. I’m so happy he’s so functional today.

i was a heavy heavy drinker for almost 27 years and the day after my wedding i came home from work was having the usual after work 24 and my wife looked at me and asked if i couldstop drinking. I did. I slipped a few times but i went to no meetings had no meds to help i went on pure stubborness and the challenge laid out before me. this year has been 25 years. and i started drinking in my early -mid teens. i feel great i still have the odd craving but it goes away fast. i am proud of my accomplishment and anyone can do it if they have the pure will to do so.
