What does pancreatic cancer have to do with looking after one’s self?
@slickness88925 жыл бұрын
@@debbbb2561 A lot. Only about 10% are genetics. Smoking increases chances 2-3 times. Sugar intake (the body having to produce insulin) contributes. High alcohol consumption (high sugar and possible cirrhosis) and lack of physical activity (exercise helps reduce glucose in the bloodstream and therefore reduce insulin levels). Many of the same contributing factors for a range of health issues. I can't say what it was in Ben's case but lifestyle can play a big part.
@GizziesGirl24 жыл бұрын
As I understand it 90 percent of cases are diagnosed over the age of 55, with the average age being 71, meaning most people are older. Ben had only just turned 53 when he passed away. And from what I've read, one was a John Hopkins study, while it's very fast moving once it gets to the spreading stage(generally speaking about 30 months from then to death), the entire process isn't all that different from many cancers, from the first pre-cancerous lesion formation to the end is about 18 years(about 11 years prior to it turning into a tumor, then about 6 years from it turning into a tumor to it starting to spread and then around 2 and half years once that happens--on average). Which means Ben most likely had that time bomb ticking away inside him way back in the early 80's when he was only in his early to mid 30s, by 92 or 93 he likely had cancer but, like almost everyone else who gets this cowardly demon of a disease, just didn't know it yet. I would suggest there probably is a reason beyond simply lifestyle for those who get it at a relatively young age(if 90 percent of those who are diagnosed are older and one has to assume that just as many of them had similar lifestyle issues) and that some sort of pre-disposition is there. For the rest, for at least 40-42 years of his life Ben was either a healthy weight or for his body type possibly even a little underweight at times and even after that there were actually only a couple of years where he was particularly overweight(and I've at least seen anecdotal stories that sometimes there is a weight gain during an earlier stage of the cancer because of the pancreas not working properly, so who knows that could even have been because of it), prior to that he was just carrying a bit extra. He liked good food but I don't recall much that would lead me to believe he was really eating unhealthily on a regular basis, his favorite condiment was his beloved hot sauce, which is mostly hot peppers and vinegar and probably one of the healthier condiments out there except that some of them have a high sodium content, and high blood pressure isn't why he died so I think we can forgive the bit of extra salt. But it's not like he was slathering mayonnaise on everything. He wasn't THAT inactive, not that he was a gym nut but he scuba dived, he cross country skii'd, he hiked, he went out in the woods and hunted, I believe at some point in the 80s he may even have jogged but I could be misremembering that. But the others he was still doing in the 90s. He was probably more active than most of the people talking about how having an active lifestyle would have prevented this or that. So yes he did have his unhealthy lifestyle, he smoked and drank, but LOTS of rock stars smoke and drink(I doubt Ben would make it into anything near the top 100 of rock n rollers with unhealthy habits when it comes down to it) and most of them do not die of pancreatic cancer at 53 years old. So maybe people should stop blaming Ben for his own death on practically every post-Cars video. @ fewerthefacts strongertheopinion post is reasonable but a whole lot of others on other videos are very holier than thou like they are 20/20 hindsight fortune tellers who just KNOW if only he'd done this or that, things would be different. Maybe I should spend more time on Ric Ocasek videos and see if people are blaming him for dying, seeing as his emphysema and heart disease(probably even more directly linked to smoking than pancreatic cancer) contributed to his death? Or does that get a pass because he was lucky enough to last longer?
@sherigilmore91413 жыл бұрын
@@GizziesGirl2 Oh I agree with everything you wrote you are an Angel because I really think his looks were a part of his disease and probably the Med's he was on. Such harsh medications for cancers. My Mom died of lung cancer and her health and looks went downhill fast. So thank you for posting this.

:23 & 2:03 Benjamin & John with sweet smiles. 2:33 Benjamin & John bear hugging. In all their concerts together, no stress, no fuss, no muss, just two buddies & their bandmates doing what they loved the most - playing great music for the fans. You could tell they had a very deep connection. It is evident with all the beautiful music they created together. The way they interacted with each other on the stage & with the audience. They were so casual & down to earth, great big smiles, laughing & joking. Their time collaborating together was probably one of the happiest & best times each experienced creatively during their entire musical careers. They were two good & humble men. They broke the mold. Thank you Benjamin & John for the musical legacies y'all left for the world to enjoy. RIP two gentle souls.

I played in Boston in 70's. I was briefly in The Nervous Eaters & early version of the Fools.. John and I became good friends.. We wrote,recorded several songs. Each teaching each other what he new .... He was a wild, imaginative brilliant guitar player. He was a big pussycat, a delicate soul encased in his large frame.. He always exuded a positive energy. I moved to NY. We kept in touch several years I was so glad he met Ben, at last John could really shine. John I miss and love you.

Cancer got him. It's ridiculous the number of people who come into his videos and get high and mighty and act like they KNOW he wouldn't have gotten pancreatic cancer if only he didn't smoke and drink.
