On the 1 hand, I really hope this series gets renewed for a 4th Season since I want to see where the characters and story goes from here. On the other hand, if the series doesn't get renewed at least the story ends on a decent note which is not something many shows can say that wanted/set up 1 more Season but didn't get them.

Yeah agreed... But this series DESERVES to be explored further - it is much more fun than star trek and i am an AVID trekkie from way way back so that's saying something. Seth deserves much more leniency to expand this baby coz he has done nothing but injected genius into this genre. I will be putting the full force of my louche energy towards bringing this outcome about... ❤

It seems like this series had a great balance between telling a cohesive, satisfying story and character arcs while also teasing potential for future development.

These three part video summaries have been exactly what I was looking for to know more about this series! I had come across a bunch of individual clips from it out of context, and was really intrigued by it, but don’t have either the time or the $ to get a whole new subscription to watch it right now. I know many people prefer to avoid spoilers, but for me personally I enjoy hearing summaries about the plots of films, shows, and games even if I haven’t seen them in full because I like analyzing how storytelling is used across a wide range of media. Even after hearing most of the plotlines here, I will still be interested in watching this eventually. Thanks for all the work you put into posting these!

The Orville is the best homage to Star Trek than the new Star Trek shite they are pumping out. It encompasses all of the positives of the original concepts without crapping all over those same ideas.
@Robinwhiteart2 жыл бұрын
Most of the new Star Trek stuff is just boring violent space opera, appealing to young males and not much to anyone else. The Orville is a better Star Trek.
@jonny-b49549 ай бұрын
I honestly think it's better than Star Trek itself. Like, all of them. It improves on ST's issues and doesn't really add any new ones. Much easier to watch and I think it has more seriously Grade A sci-fi episodes as a proportion of it's total episodes.

the whole "we can't share tech with an underdeveloped civilisation" is becoming a bit of a tired trope imo... there is some validitiy to the trope, but i'm sure that out of 10 civilisations that are given tech, at least one would progress through it rather than implode in a doomsday scenario. also, not every civilisation has to necessarily go thru some form of selfish competition as its organising principle. did they not show a peaceful underwater race of fish-like beings? did they also end up with late-stage capitalism and/or hypernationalism? how did they even attain space-faring tech on their own? the one thing i thought was interesting about star trek discovery was how saru's race... ...had no space-faring tech of their own, but saru managed to intercept some federation comms and found a way to contact them on his own, and that allowed him to join the crew without his civilisation actually attaining space-faring tech... which eventually led to him introducing the tech to his people (and liberating them from their enslavers). it is definitely at least plausible for some races to gain advanced tech without turning on itself.

Plus the notion that we develop it when ready for it is BS. Look at all the things we have but aren't used because of greed, the things that can kill is all that we have and the things we're actively preventing from coming up.
@mmisa95052 жыл бұрын
The whole play god theory makes perfect sense. I do think that looking at our current civilisation at 21st century we are definitely not prepared for such technology as it would definitely be used for profit.
@alveolate2 жыл бұрын
@@mmisa9505 this is based on a sample size of one tho. sure, humans suck ass, but should ALL other civs just be dicked because we suck? also, why can't advanced civs figure out a way to sensibly disseminate life-saving and civ-saving tech to younger civs? heck, what's wrong with "playing god" if you can be an actual godlike mentor civ to a younger one, if you could actually nurture them out of their emo teen phase and have actual technological prowess to affect outcomes... as opposed to being a fairy tale god of the gaps? i still can't shake the feeling that... this whole "we shouldn't play god" angle is very tainted by our own human history with abuse of power, and represents a narrow-minded constraint on actual possibilities. in other words, this is the one trek thing that i felt was antithetical to trek spirit.

K-1 became Primary, not Timmis. (You'll note that K-1's actor is the same as Primary, Timmis has a different actor.) People are going to say "well Primary's eyes are a different color while Timmis's are the same color. Well, that doesn't matter. ALL Kaylon built by the builders had yellow eyes. When K-1 became Primary he was upgraded. They were already shown to upgrade themselves once they figured out how to communicate with each other. Given the leadership role K-1 took, it makes sense that he was the one that became Primary, especially since it's the same actor.

Emotional over a robot/computers 'death' ? I felt sorry for H.A.L. (especially considering that in original drafts/stories H.A.L. made it... and in my own 'heresy' H.A.L. was not actually responsible, but that's another story) or S.I.D.'s "I have been hit..... I have been hit.... I.... haave.... beeen.....hit....." scene. Okay did not 'die' but even so. and also. "He's dying" followed by, "I am sorry..... I have failed.... you"... Vila's interaction with the slowley dieing ZEN. Feeling sorry for a fictional character, and especially a non-human one is a mark of both great writing and in the case of film/tv great character acting.
