That was really interesting what you said about making the line of the frame of the glasses a little shaky and wobbly on purpose. Little things like that can make a picture much more interesting looking, you're right. And that's another reason it seems why it's sometimes suggested to not outline everything first before you start painting. If there was an outline where the frame of the glasses goes, it would just be in the way of the interesting and spontaneous shape you would want to make and improvise with the brush.

Hi Ben, I love your videos. I tried the link you posted in the comments but it isn’t working. I found the video on your page after a tiny bit of looking. I feel a little embarrassed to say this because I realize the price you’re charging for that video is a great bargain for that kind of in depth instruction from someone with your experience but it’s a bit more expensive than I can afford. Again, I feel ashamed to say it because I realize what went into creating it. Thank you for the videos though. I just wanted to bring it to your attention so you could fix the link for people with slightly deeper pockets than mine. Cheers from Canada!

I am so sad that I don't get to see him use the "small medical knife" at the end (darned youtube links block him); but, I imagine that all he is doing is scritching off the color to bring back the white of the paper for those final highlights. (Better than white out!) :-)

I've been dabbling with watercolor for a while now and invested in some nice watercolor pencils... then I decided to try a portrait of my daughter. Watercolor pencils, NO... Taking paint from the tip of the watercolor pencil - No... but better. Two bad portraits down, 98 more to go. I'm now waiting on a set of water color blocks, so I can actually paint. :-) I think it actually has most of the colors Ben uses...
