I listened to this album so much in the early 2000's.. it is really strong and cohesive as a whole and i love how diary-like it feels, it's like she's talking to you directly. Amazing album and great reaction. I think you may really like Back To Basics, Bionic and Liberation albums too since they are more on the experimental side of things.

I will second this - this album (stripped) is such a rollercoaster for me. Whenever Beautiful plays, I almost always tear up, unfortunately, because it reminds me of when we were watching some award show when I was younger, and the clip played from the music video where the two men are kissing and my dad said “I used to love that song until I saw that, gross.” I think I was maybe 9 or 10, and that’s still stuck with me; just goes to show how important songs like that are!

@@bennshouts it is kinda a double album? Not exactly split evenly. The cd came in double disc and the album plays as like 2 parts to the story. I remember the album booklet being really different as in the paper felt like it had thickness and gloss over it to make you immerse yourself in the album. It’s very much supposed to be like a throwback album that happened to come out in 2006. It’s honestly for me more enjoyable as a whole than stripped.

Christina was very much an underdog especially in the early 2000s. She was always criticized for being too outspoken or revealing. Not conforming to the “cookie cutter” image that her label wanted her to present herself to the public. Even with all the immense talent and vocal abilities, her music was at times overshadowed by critics comparing her to other pop acts at the time that weren’t even in her caliber.

It’s kinda cool coming across young content creators uploading reaction videos to albums that were the soundtrack back when I was young. The only difference being, that I because I was a fan Of Christina. Knew the climate in music, what motivated her to make this album, and the critical reception/character assassination she received when it was released. Soooo much that sort of just makes these songs stand out even more. Even with what was going on with the P!nk vs Christina and Linda in the middle thing. But wait! Christmas is literally 4 days away. You’re doing a christina deep dive. And she has a Christmas album (though technically not a studio album despite containing some original songs). Missed opportunity? Lol but something tells me Christmas songs are not your thing. 😂😂

I have the same conundrum with Soar! It's the only song I would cut if i had to remove one, but it would be tough coz it's actually a solid track. Problem is it follows Cruz, which is in a similar vein but packs a harder punch, in my opinion. Back in the real world though, in 2002, I burned myself a copy for my car where I was making the album even longer LoL; the Dirrty single had a B-side called I Will Be, which became my personal closer... similar themes of self-empowerment, but it stands out because of its stark arrangement (just piano/vocals, maybe some strings). Pretty sure it's included on the 20th anniversary edition as the final track (bitches stole my idea 😂😂😂) I know you weren't really vibing with "Get mine, get yours" but that's been a favourite of mine since day 1, so smooth, sexy and seductive. It was bold and clever of Xtina to stand firmly in opposition of the "virginal" images that Britney and Jessica Simpson had created for themselves. That definitely helped her establish herself as an adult artist, whereas other pop chickadees were inevitably trapped and stifled by their "kiddie" images.

The entire album is autobiographical. Partly why it’s called Stripped. A couple things to know. Beautiful was never meant to go to anyone else but to Linda herself. P!nk and Courtney Love both wanted the song. They were playing around in the studio and Linda showed her the song just to show her next time they see each other Xtina ask to record it and Linda doesn’t want to give it up until she agrees to record and Xtina tells her friend she brought with her to “not look at me” and that’s when Linda knew it was her song to sing. Dirrty was an inspiration by Redman’s let’s get dirty. She wanted her version of that so the producer made a pop version and that’s why Redman featured on the song. Also Alicia Keys almost gave Xtina if I ain’t got you before her team convinced her to give her another Impossible

If you're going to react to music videos and live performances for this era as well; Though I'd say the performances from this era are stellar (my favorite being either At Last or Genie in a Bottle from the Stripped tour), I think the best performance to react to would be I'm OK live on VH1 Storytellers in 2010. Technically it's in the Bionic era, but it's the first (and to my knowledge , only) time she performed that song and she even spoke about it a little bit beforehand

The correct story, from the mouth of Linda Perry, is that LINDA herself approached Christina personally. There's this whole lie that she was "stolen" or "Influenced". It came from LINDA PERRY'S MOUTH herself, that she approached Christina Aguilera to work with her.

I've never managed to enjoy Stripped in just one sitting, but I don't mean that in a bad way. All the songs are quality songs, but there are just too many ballads, LONG ballads, and while I'm able to enjoy the songs individually, the album experience can be a bit suffocating.

I grew up with this album. A lot of it still holds up. Even though the songs that aren't that good, her vocal performances are enough to keep you listening. This album has a decent number of filler tracks, but the the thing about filler tracks is that sometimes they make it to the final product because of obligations to songwriters or publishing and also sometimes even the label itself.
@bennshouts25 күн бұрын
A very good point!
@lutalice24 күн бұрын
Hmm... I think you might be confusing "filler" tracks with "songs I don't like as much." Filler generally describes songs that are thrown together to fill out the rest of an album when an artist has a few strong songs, and don't want to "waste" any material on songs that would never become singles. Or, in other cases, where an artist doesn't write their own material, they might only have the budget for a few expensive songs more likely to become hits, and 6 or 7 bargain basement tunes 😂 Btw I'm not trying to be a know-it-all, I just love pop music. And I am happy that the current trend is for artists to try to make solid albums start to finish, and in my opinion, Stripped is definitely one of those; a no-skip for myself and I want to say most others.
