It still blows my mind that people say she can't sing. CLEARLY she can. Can she do vocal gymnastics like Whitney or Mariah? No. But she has a distinct voice that can still portray feeling and passion while sounding good doing it.

Bottom line was Madonna was THE singer on the radio that EVERYONE could sing along with and have fucking fun singing. We were in the car with the radio blaring and us singing along with and just having a fabulous time. Seriously. Her voice was hers. Ours were ours. We had fun singing together. 🎉❤🎉❤
@maximilianovalverde669219 күн бұрын
Madonna indeed had a good voice, with a pretty tone, it was simply untrained at the time. She sounds tired in some parts of the show and it's understandable as she's dancing but it's also because singing is harder than it looks and straining may hurt your vocal cords. At the time of the Blond Ambition Tour, she had to cancel some shows because she was sick. Studying singing for Evita saved her career in a way because she could have developed vocal cord nodules (as many other singers) if she hadn't done it and singing lessons helps you to prevent those pathologies (I study singing, too).

I attended her Virgin Tour date when she played in a very conservative Costa Mesa, Ca. in 1985. The Beastie Boys opened for her. They were so drunk and over the crowd within minutes of their set. When Madonna came out to sing the first few songs, she noticed some folks in the front rows weren't dancing or having a good time. She told them "get up off your butts and dance!", which had zero effect on them. Ironically, the audience in the middle and far back were the one's who were all out of their theater seats dancing their butts off. Although she seemed to have fun during the show, It looked like she drank some alcohol towards the last part of the show. She was swearing more at the folks who refused to get up and dance with her. Playfully cursing, but irritated. As she exited the stage after the final song, She told the people who refused to dance " F**CK THIS S**T!! ", and walked towards the backstage, as soon as she almost made it out of my view, she tripped and slipped on a gathering of dirty black stage cables, she fell flat on her butt. I saw her bounce when she fell, she let out the BIGGEST and FUNNIEST laugh into the microphone. I recall seeing the dirty stage cable marks on her backside when she got back up. We laughed with her. Such a unique moment only a few of us saw.

“Everybody” is her very first single ever. It wasn’t hugely successful but after she got big it became a fan favorite. I love her voice and the dancing. The vocals are so underrated and what she was famous for. I’ve seen every tour live except for this one because i had to choose between the Purple Rain Tour and this. I don’t regret it but i wish i saw The Virgin Tour. This VHS came out Christmas 1985. We got a VCR and his tape for Xmas that year. Literally watched it over and over. It’s 15 and now at 54 i still love everything about this era. Her untrained voice is my favorite. The imperfections are everything.

Her evolution as a performer from The Virgin Tour to a mere two years later with the Who's That Girl Tour is staggering to me. From the highly intense WAY more polished choreo, to her body transformation into a legit athlete to keep up with it, to her new look, to now being able to play stadiums around the world. To me with Virgin, she was a cool chick with catchy songs bopping around like a pop tart. Cut to two years later when she was a legitimate GLOBAL ICON already, dancing like a BEAST as she by and large sang songs that fell into the category of pop art.

Whats a pity is that you can't accept someone APPRECIATING someone's massive evolution as an artist in a mere 2 years which was my point. Did I say The Virgin Tour was terrible? Absolutely not. It's still a better show than 99% of other pop girls could dream of putting on, but to not see how much she grew as a performer and an artist in two years time is a pity.

Angel, Borderline and Burning Up were part of the set list. The pink balloons that you see dropped at the end were actually dropped during the Angel performance which came right after Everybody. However, the three songs were cut from the whole video because, according to the director who filmed the tour, he didn't consider these to be her best performances. One of the biggest things from this tour was that some of the reviews (by men) made some comments about her body, calling her fat, and this had a huge effect on her. Right after this, she started training hard and basically became a health nut, which was part of her re-invention. When she released True Blue, she had a new look and a newly toned body which also shaped her into the super star performer today. Crazy!

Great reaction and merry Christmas! It would be amazing if the full show was finally released. This video footage was heavily edited - mainly as there was a restriction on the running time of music videos that were to be released on VHS in the mid-80s. It also meant that her record company could cut Madonna's more suggestive speeches and routines, to guarantee an 'E' (exemption) rating for the release. The full show had an extended intro before Dress You Up. A saucy speech where Madonna introduced the audience to her "box", which she told them that they had to "turn on", as she grinded on a boom box (she later paid homage to on her Confessions Tour, with Hung Up), and musical interludes from the band as she changed costumes. Angel was performed after Everybody, Borderline came after Gambler, and the main part of the show (before LAV) ended with a performance of Burning Up which would have definitely altered the rating.

I also love Madonna's rasp too, which was all through the 80s, and ended after her 1990's I'm Breathless album. With 1990's Immaculate Collection, Rescue Me was her last rasp, before she transitioned to spoken word with Justify My Love, then 92's Erotica spoken vocals. Mid 90's was soft ballads etc and by Evita the rasp was well and truly gone. I never liked Like A Virgin until the Confessions Tour version.

Hello bennshouts Madonna re-recorded the majority of these live vocals after the tour was over for the video release. If you listen to other bootlegs from the tour you can hear the difference. Thats why she sounds good. The editors also speeded up the video of some of her dancing like the twirling during the bridge of Dress You Up. Theres news footage out there of the 1st two songs and she was not twirling that fast.
