The late Stanley Crouch cited this as one of the 25 greatest jazz solos after 1980, and you can clearly hear why. I was lucky to first meet Benny back in 1976, when I was a young alto player, and he once asked me to play something for him, and I felt intimidated because here I was in front of the master, I'm a young nobody, but he just said play something and don't worry about it. I did and he said I had my own sound, which coming from him meant the world. I miss him greatly

Thanks for this. Everything's there. Start with thorough harmonic command and technical mastery. Then apply it to the goal, which is musicality, beauty, originality, and soul (wonderful articulation!). Benny's got it all in this tune. Wow. As an alto man, I stand on the shoulders of giants like him.
