This is fantastic. We forget how different and new this was at the time. Nobody had played lead electric guitar like this ever before. I think it's a great tribute to Benny Goodman that he immediately recognized the genius of Charlie Christian when he first met him, and then gave him the spotlight as a featured soloist. Especially being a black man in a white band, in a time of extreme racism in America. Those recordings they made together are among the greatest in musical history, without a doubt. The great tragedy is that Charlie had such a short life, and died at the age of 26.

Charlie's re-invention of this famous melody is just brilliant -- and provides a rare opportunity to hear this primarily single-note soloist playing chord melody. I love the "Pretty Baby" quote. CC was a genius!

"Pretty baby" interpolation at 1:34 !! His phrasing was elegant, as floating over the beats. What a gifted musician he was!

Does that mean he's "quoting" a song call "Pretty Baby"?
