I see Lionel Hampton on vibes, Teddy Wilson on piano, Benny of course on clarinet, Who else ? Gene Krupa on Drums. Harry James ? Ziggy Elman on Trumpet. I have this in my memory with my father's voice, my mother, too.

"Stealing Apples" was done at Disneyland in Anaheim around 1961 or so. That's the marvelous Ray Sherman on piano. This band is very close to the real deal of the 1930s-40s.

Would you happen to know the song starting at 8:16? I’ve been looking for so long but can’t seem to find it
@chimosd13 жыл бұрын
I think you'll find this is Benny Goodman.

Hymie Schertzer - Alto sax; Vido Musso - Tenor Sax; Art Rollini - tenor Sax; Vernon Brown/Red Ballard - Trombone; Chris Griffin - 3rd trumpet (I think the 4th guy is an actor); Allen Ruess - Guitar; Harry Goodman - Bass; Jess Stacy - Piano

The "4th guy" (playing cornet, actually) was Johnny "Scat" Davis, a bandleader in his own right. Although shown on the screen in these big-band sequences, he did not play on the soundtrack. Musso played with Davis' band before he joined Goodman.

The more I think about it, the less certain I am about the precise nature (and date) of the Musso/Davis association. And while I'm at it, I'll correct spelling of BG's guitarist to "Reuss."

My Mom sang and toured with Benny for a year and a half. Maria Marshall (Benny Goodman Swings Again). She did the cut on Robert E Lee, Bill Bailey and one other song.

I wish bill bailey would finally get his ass home and stay there.

Name of guitarist? Played in a style reminiscent of Charlie Christian.

So whose idea was it to f* with the aspect ratio of the video for no reason? Great quartet but unwatchable
@mrjimmienoone21304 жыл бұрын
I bet the first clip is played to fast. So it sounds ais if it were in B, not in B-flat, if my piano isn't lying. No one in his right mind would play that in B.

yah, the pitch is all over the place on this videotape...

Benny had one of the greatest drummers in the world. Only Buddy Rich equaled Gene Krupa.
