Cool. By chance do u know what type of shells benny uses? Maple or beech on his sq2 kits

Thanks for checking the video out Larry, hope it's given you some ideas. I'm fairly sure he uses beech shells, although I think the majority of his sound comes down to heads, tuning and shell thickness over the type of wood.

Except birch sounds a lot different to me than maple. Maple has lot more warmth and birch more attack and a much shorter sustain. Yea I already use remo coated emperors and tune similar. I get a great sound from yamaha absolute maple but I'm gonna be buying a sonor kit in a few months. I know his snare is beech and sounds very unique among other snares out there at low medium or high tunings. I love his snare too. Thanks.

Larry Tate Ive had a similar experience with an old birch kit but they were fairly thick shells also. I think thin shells will give you plenty of sustain. I'm pretty sure Benny Greb uses cotton wool inside his floor toms for the muffling.

Cool. His floor toms sound amazing. Thanks lot.

I'm debating between the maple and beech shell. Gavin Harrison's my other favorite drum sound uses the sq2 maple but I went on benny website and I think u are right. They are beech so it's a toss up as of now. Lol
