Fantastic old lifts, and great ones to surf. That's great how you can hijack them like that.

Good to see them in original. It’s a shame that middle one they put door sensors inside. They clearly made a mistake and would have left the inside original.

Referring to 'Lift coming' lights, I remember an old Express lift at Park House Hotel in Blackpool (said lift doesn't exist anymore sadly as it has been replaced) that had 'Lift coming' in green capital letters

That motor is quite loud but brilliant. That Bennie lift is so iconic. I’m amazed on how these old lifts have been kept in good condition.

Passive interlocks, surprises me everytime that some of these have survived into the present day. According to an old (1960’s) dutch book about lifts they where quite unreliable in combination with wooden doors. If the door would slightly warp (which happens with wood) the latch could miss the catch causing it to be not locked. Someone could open it up by accident and find no lift there.

The problem with passive interlocks is that due to real world tolerances, the locking point of the interlock can not be at the exact same place as where safety connects. So there is two possible failures. The safety could connect and the door isn't shut, which is the dangerous failure. Or the door could be locked and safety could disconnect. So someone could pull on the door and not realize that the lift has been disabled. This is the inconvenient failure. I guess passive interlocks can be slightly safe as long as they are made so that the inconvenient failure happens instead of the dangerous failure. When used with a sprung door closer on a swing door the inconvenient failure won't leave the lift disabled. But on a gated lift someone could bump into the gate and disable the lift. Although, with that said, passive lockings have no verification that the door has actually locked. So if the spring on the roller failed then the door could be opened when the lift isn't there. So it is not a safe system.
