Hey, no joke, I had a nightmare about this. It was like a shopping center where my mom left me because I wanted to see something for myself, but she didn’t want to go with me. I went up on the elevator. I looked at my things I wanted to look at (I don’t remember what), and then I went down... The elevator, it wouldn’t stop... IT KEPT GOING! After I was down there... I found an old catacomb fall out shelter. We hacked an elevator at a really old school for the deaf training center in Kalamazo MI its scary as hell down there. There where still cans of food on a few shelves and old metal cots. We walked for miles down there. Some tunnels where very crawl-spacy. It connects to a power plant on campus but there is asbestos down there which was why the elevators where firmwared off. There where rusty cans on shelves that could have been from the 20s... Nice find.

***** You will find a lot of secret basements in estate high rise blocks. You get a friend into the lift and then get another to use the inspection panel to bring you down. Then we mess around with the inspection box and put the lift into the pit and then slip in through the gap. The lift doesn't say it's out of service, it just says that there are mechanics working on the lift so nobody tries to play around with it.

Aaron Burtt Most high rise blocks don't appear to have basement, how many of them do you think there is a basement but its hidden. Most tower block lifts don't have a basement in the logic, as when the lift arrives at ground (from an inside call) the indicator immediately changes to up (meaning last downward floor). I will have to try opening the outer doors on ground and having a look down the shaft. If the lift can be driven from on top down there, then I would need a second person (if its at the lowest point the lift goes). Don't some tower block lifts have a lift surfing alarm that needs to be disabled?

Not around Erith. Most of the lifts are fixed within 3 months of breaking by a company called Axis. not much gets down here. But most blocks around here have basements. During modernization in the logic of most of them the basement button was never put in. But some you can find them. Over here you can surf them down there. If you open the doors on a different floor with most Erith area lifts they don't go out of service as such. Instead after 10 seconds they say the lift is in the basement and mechanics are on site.

One time, at Guangzhou Airport, I was checking out a VIP lounge elevator. I saw a button that was covered to prevent it from being pressed. I pressed it anyway and it actually worked. It illuminated. The car proceeded to go down. When it arrived, I saw a wall. I got scared because I knew I could easily get trapped between the outer doors of the elevator and that wall. That floor had no call button outside.

There is or was a video here on KZbin that showed two women that appeared to be college aged going down an elevator in Egypt, possibly Cairo. It was the 'European' type that had no inner door, and ordinary swinging doors on the outside. Typically, this kind of elevator has a shaft that is as smooth as possible with the doors lining up perfectly with the shaft,and no protruding handles or large openings in the wall and are generally pretty safe. However, the one in Egypt was a death trap with all kinds of protrusions and indentations on the opening side of the shaft wall, which would guillotine you if you were not careful. It seems saftey regulations in Egypt are far more lax than in Europe. But anyway, the girls passed floor after floor that was fully bricked up (crude, sloppy masonry work), and another floor that still had it's door but was bricked up on the floor side of the door, and of course the glass in the long vertical window of that door was missing adding yet another guillotine hazard. The women got to the floor where they could exit only to have the cab stop short a couple feet from fully leveling with the floor and the lights went out and they got stuck. Almost immediately a man in a shirt, tie, and slacks opens that door from the outside which makes me think building management was fully aware of the craptacular shape the elevator was in and made sure to be on the lookout for stuck passengers.

Or, people are assumed to be responsible and not put limbs out of the cab while it's moving. Btw, I love those "European" style with the smooth shaft wall. I rode one while in France. In a rare instance, there was one like that in an apartment building in San Francisco.

upanddownadventures Friend presses the button outside. It doesn't seem to always work. This lift does have memory logic, but it can't seem to remember the basement call. I don't think it is meant to go down there at all. Maybe it is meant to be completely locked off. Or maybe it is even removed from the logic, but the button sometimes starts the lift off, but with no call registered making the lift keep going until it reaches the final limit switch. (that would explain the indicator).

Looks like they didn't want people coming in straight from the garage , but they still need to lower the elevator all the way to service it. Solution, put a ten second time delay on the call button for the garage. You have to hold the button for ten seconds (or more) before the logic board recognizes it.

Elevators can take you places you're not meant to. I once worked for a place that rented parking from a bank and one morning I was again taking the elevator up with a bunch of bank people who swiped their badges before pushing the button for their floor. I guess when I pushed the button for lobby it just didn't register. So I get out on autopilot with a bunch of other people on what turns out to be the 3rd level. Nobody even looked twice at me, I'm in uniform like everybody else (dark suit and tie). They go through a biometric gate, the kind of thing where you step inside in a very small space only for one person and it closes behind you first and then opens on the other side. Not at all for fat people. I try to call the elevator to go down again but it turns out it needs a badge. Then because there's nobody there to help I take off into the other direction and there's a lounge with a phone and vending machines. I try dialling 0. Nothing happens. 100. Same thing. Them I tried 4 digit numbers to get anyone and finally somebody picks up and I explain to them what happened. They give me the number for building security. I call them and they're literally screaming at me on the phone and I'm screaming back either you get my out of here RIGHT NOW or I'm calling the cops! Five minutes later 2 guys in uniform and a guy in a suit appear, and I explain again that we rent in the parking garage and I just accidentally missed the lobby. He tells me to be more careful the next time and that I am not in trouble .. this time. Then they put me back on the elevator and walked me through the building exit. From then on I made sure the button for lobby was lit when I pushed it.

Many years ago I played around in an elevator in a high rise building in Switzerland. I pressed the emergency stop button just a couple of seconds before the programmed stop at the 2nd and "final" sub-level... BIG scary surprise when the elevator continued another 4 or 5 levels, before stopping. There were no locks on the doors and lights came on automatically in what looked like a huge military type hospital / medical facility. I didn't go too far from the elevator as it was a scary, eerie feeling so deep down there. Then, worst of all, the elevator did not move anymore and I had to call for a technician via the intercom... I never dared to do this "trick" again, to explore, and absolutely nobody knew of that facility and whatever else was on the other 3 or 4 hidden floors.

It is actually quite normal to seal off floors like this. But usually you disconnect so that it can't stop at the floor anymore not just covering up the button in the elevator. I am guessing your friend you called was on the secret floor and he could call for the elevator on that floor.

Maybe they just didn‘t want people to go to the basement and had originally planned to use it, as a cheap solution (instead of a key).

I know that once I was in an unallowed floor in Bánska Bystrica where it was for the staff, you could get there only from one of two WC elevators When I went up (it was second floor) it opened and even though it was just a smaller white lit up hall with cleaning stuff and some clothes I was amazed that I got there, actually I weakly heard some voices first thought that it might come from down from the WC's but it suddenly started going stronger so I got scared I wanted to explore it but didn't even look away from the elevator and smashed that (like 🅱utton) WC floor back, as it almost closed I saw somebody right opening the door, this gave me chills mixed with fear and satisfaction that I have avoided really closely danger thus meaning I didn't want to risk it again and go up there. That was 2 years ago and the elevator was OTIS 2000 if I remember correctly

There has to be a way down there where you can walk around. There's power, so staff still go there apparently. Surely many have a key for that lock, but there have to be stairs too. Thats fire safety code regulations.

The thing that confuses me is, I thought that the shopping centre was built in the 90s (It feels very 90s), but the Sainsbury's Savacentre feels much older, and if this is a 60s Bennie lift, that confirms my theory that the Savacentre was there first, and the shopping centre was built onto it much later. If this is true, there must have been more than this single lift to access the basement car park, unless that wasn't originally a car park but rather just a service area, which would make sense because of the gated door.

I don't like it much either, and it's places like this that ruined high streets. It wouldn't surprise me if this was the final nail in the coffin for Gillingham High Street. Gravesend and especially Dartford lost a lot of shoppers when B*uewater opened, and M&S in Gravesend closed last year because everyone went to B*uewater instead (and its original 60s neon sign went with it).

Looks like tgere is still life in the basement. Likely for safety reasons they are no longer allowed to have so much weight to bring up as the mechanicals are tired. As ppl are lighter than equipment they have limited the elevator. But really, if they have restricted access for safety, surely not using the elevator would be safer

it took so long to get started on going to the secret basement floor, I expected the automated voice to say"this may take a while, in the meantime, Have a Cuppa? use floor buttons to select how you would like your tea" push floor 1 for with cream, or 2 " for Cream and sugar" Etc... and a little door opens ,and there is a freshly brewed cup of tea. HAHA

To be honest, I do not know why this video is being promoted by youtube. I have made much better videos where I get to secret floors by driving the lift from inside the lift shaft, but youtube is not promoting these. It is really annoying.

@@benolifts I found this while searching "Katarinahissen elevator" after DieselDucy and 9 other people rode and recorded that elevator. I was searching to see if the other 8 people had uploaded their videos as well so I can see it from all perspectives. I hate when KZbin hides shit. I repeated searched for a remix for a song over a period of a few years only to finally find it and it's been on the site for a few years. If that's the case, how come I didn't find it earlier when searching for it using the same keywords being title and artist of the song followed by "remix".
