This video shows how to do a basic Guitar Re-Amp using the Eleven Rack and Pro Tools 11.
Because this video is not about TONE, the guitar sound you hear is not the Direct recorded tone, but the output of the monitors/speakers, recorded into the same microphone used to record the voice-over. Which, if anyone cares, was a Nokia Lumia 1020.
Re-Amping allows you to use the same performance that was originally recorded, but change the guitar tone, amp, cab, mic, effects, ect....
The Eleven Rack allows you to record the effected guitar tone AND the dry guitar sound at the same time in Pro Tools.
In this video we use Pro Tools 11, but the Re-Amp process is the same in other versions of Pro Tools.
In this video we re-amp a guitar tone, but you can actually send any kind of signal through the RIG path using this same method.
First, record your guitar part and the dry guitar at the same time.
You will probably want to MUTE the dry guitar while laying down your riff.
Once you have the perfect take, you can Re-Amp the dry guitar.
Simply change the OUTPUT of the dry guitar track to "Re-Amp (L)/(R)"
Then change the RIG INPUT of the Eleven Rack to "Re-Amp"
That's it!
Now all you need to do is setup the track you want to record the new guitar sound too. You can use a MONO or STEREO Audio track.
Just make sure you set the Input of the audio track to
"Eleven Rig (L)/(R)"
There are many creative uses for Re-Amping. You can use it to simply change the sound of a guitar track, or use it to layer the same performance with different mic's, cabs, amps, ect...
You could also re-amp bass, or re-amp an already amp'ed guitar tone for sound design, or send drums or synths through the Eleven Rack Rig..... and much more.

Thanks for this vid. It helped me get a general idea of how to do this with my DAW: Tracktion Waveform.

Anyone knows how to set level of recording signal in Eleven Rack so its not to high and not to be low?

I know this is a 'old' video but there is no "Guitar In (Mono)" on my version of ProTools for the interface to get just the dry signal. There is only "Guitar In/ Mic In.L" & "Guitar In/ Mic In.R" and both of these put through the full rig! I started a new session in PT11 and there is a Dry Track using "Guitar In" but it is grayed out.

You need to default the IO. You can also rename the inputs.
@vaughanmacegan4012

+@@BenoniStudio I typed "ProTools default the IO" into Google and saw that you have a video for that also :) Man you are thorough! You were such a help back in the day when the 11R was going strong and on the forums, you were the *man* . I am trying to get Bias Amp2 and Bias FX Professional up and running through the 11R as the interface for guitar, I don't suppose you have vid on that too?!? Yes I still love the 11R just trying to get some more tones as I ease myself back onto guitar. I also needed to use your video on Getting the 11R editor to stay visible it keeps disappearing after a short while

I don't have a video on exactly that, but you would choose a Mono audio track. Set the input to GUITAR. And insert Bias on that track. Arm or monitor the track and you are good to go. The 11R was great, but there are better units and plugins today. My current go-to is the ENGL E646 VS from Plugin-Alliance.

+@@BenoniStudio Thanks again :) I'll do that - I thought I would need the "Guitar In", but, wasn't sure about the Mono or Stereo. I've been watching Ola Englund's channel where he reviews a lot of plug-ins that have recently been released for the heavier end of the spectrum and have been blown away by them, like Fortin, and I'll definitely check out this ENGL plugin. Thankyou and Regards.

Hello, Now that the issue has been solved I have another question. You mentioned that you were using pro tools HD and you could monitor it when you press play to hear the amp sounds and change on the fly, is there a way to do this in Pro Tools 11? Thanks again

So do you need the physical 11 rack box to be able to do reamp your guitar or no? I’m just now learning about this.
@BenoniStudio
@BenoniStudio 7 жыл бұрын
No. I mean, unless you want to use the Eleven Rack sounds... If you want to re-amp all you need to do is be sure to record a dry guitar track. Then you can re-amp to real amps or use software.

Do you have to use 11R as the interface or can you keep your normal interface as the one you use?
@BenoniStudio
@BenoniStudio 8 жыл бұрын
is this a general question or do you mean for re-amping specifically? for the steps in this video you would of course have to have the Eleven Rack as your playback engine. If you didn't the IO would be totally different.

I'm doing everything you're doing, step by step but there's no sound coming out and the monitor audio track isn't receiving any audio, help please! Also for some reason the Guitar input is mixed with the Mic and the Guitar input is on the left while the Mic is on the right. So when I choose that option the Guitar input sound only comes out of the left speaker...

***** It sounds like you are getting the doubling error that happens sometimes because the drivers are screwy. Shut everything down and restart. I have a video on this as well, I'll find it....

***** here, try this solution kzbin.info/www/bejne/ipO1n6yqa7WJoMU if it does not work, shut down everything, including the 11R and restart. Sometimes the driver gets "stuck" to phrase it poorly, and it keeps monitoring all the time. I've mentioned it, but nothing has been done about it.

***** After checking out the video (which turned out to be about a different issue) I created a new project and did everything all over again. Turns out I was just clicking on play instead of Record + Play. Once I did it right, it worked! This is what happens when someone who's used to the simplicity of Logic Pro transfers to Pro Tools... Thanks for the help anyway. I do have a question though, the reason I wanted to Re-Amp was to Manually apply a Wah effect from Eleven Rack after having recorded the track, I figured I'd latch the effect while re-amping, but I couldn't figure out how, do you have an idea on the steps to do that?
@jcalla28
@jcalla28 10 жыл бұрын
***** Oh, and I noticed that you also have the Guitar/Mic combined in a single preference in the Input, guitar on left and mic on right, so I guess this is normal in Pro Tools.

How do you get the PT input set to "re-amp" if you are using the 003 as the interface and the elevenrack to record guitars via SPDIF?
@BenoniStudio
@BenoniStudio 10 жыл бұрын
I have a video about that. The easiest way is to just use the Eleven Rack as the interface, but if you want to use the 003 then you will basically need to send the signal out of the 003 and into the 11R, run it through the rig, and then send it back into the 003. It's not as hard as it sounds, just work it out in your head or watch the video.

***** I called up Avid yesterday and asked about this issue. After everything was set the way it was supposed to (which I had before) I was then asked to go to I/O and delete all paths and then restore to default. This worked, but only briefly. Now I have been advised to reinstall ProTools and the Eleven Rack editor. Seems to be a software issue rather than a fault on my behalf.

In that case, you won't see the inputs from the Eleven Rack because it is not your Audio Interface, the Focusrite is. Default the IO, and choose the input on the 18i8 that the Eleven Rack is connected to.
