Yep Novablast 4 for me as a mile muncher non-trail shoe that has a massive pace spread, I have close to 400 miles on mine and they still feel great, I have my 5K PB, marathon PB and I also used them for the last 30miles of a 100mile Ultra, thats as versatile as it gets!
@AndreasKriswanto19892 ай бұрын
350 miles in less than 3 months speaks volume about how much you like the shoes 😄You're spot on about SB being firm. I see people expected it to be more "soft" partly because it's advertised as 'bouncy' shoes. Personally I found the firmness of SB has helped the energy return remain constant after 20k plus, something softer shoes are hard to achieve. Great review as always, Ben!!
@davidpless8486Ай бұрын
Yup, I put mine on and started walking around and was worried because they felt so firm. As soon as I started running it just melted away and is the perfect balance of cushion and support with great energy return. Favorite shoe ever
@AndreasKriswanto1989Ай бұрын
@@davidpless8486 For real, they're badass for long distance training. The shoe might not be fitting well for easier/slower sessions when the cushion is still fresh and new but I found SB is even comfortable enough for recovery and easy days after 500k mark. I still have SB1 currently at 800km and it still working like a charm. I won't second guess to get myself a new pair of SB1 in the coming Black Friday if the availability permits lol

Great video! First shoe I have ever bought a second pair of. It just ticks all the boxes. Have currently ran over 300k in them and they still feel basically the same as when I took them out of the box for the first time. The biggest surprise to me has been the outsole grip and durability. I expect it to easily reach 800k. Very happy I was able to buy a second pair when the new colourways dropped. Other shoes feel boring compared to this one.

I got the SB 1 earlier this year. Most of my long training runs done in it. I did the Gold Coast Marathon in July and continued training and have just done the Sydney Marathon last weekend. All in the SB 1. A phenomenal shoe, comfortable, no issues and I also prefer a slightly firmer ride. Worked better for me than the Adidas Adizero Pro 3 !! Paired my SB 1 with the Asics Noosa Tri 15 this year. No carbon plate required. Will 100% get the SB 2.

I was very lucky when I went into Derby Runner earlier this year when I looking for a replacement for my Sarchony Triumph 21s and was shown a selection of different shoes which included the Superblast 2s, so it was a complete no-brainer getting these at that time. They were awful for my first run, (as I have a narrow foot), but after that and when adopted a runners knot for these, the uppers had moulded in to the shape of my foot, they have simply been superb and easily the best, overall running shoes that I have ever had! As an alternative, I would now go for Novablast 4s!

Love this shoe so much too and just picked up a 2nd pair now that they restocked. I like that they are not super soft, but on a more firm side, they are perfect for the long runs, but also to pick up the pace when needed. Price point, yes it is expensive, but for a shoe you can get get at least 700 miles out of and probably more, it is right on. It is the best daily trainer, do it all shoe I have ever had.

Great to hear your honest opinion on the SB2. I've been reserving it just for my long runs, and I do the bulk of my easy running in the Novablast 4. It took me a while to find my groove with the SB2, one of my favourite long run routes is on some rolling hills and I find the rear of the shoe quite clunky and it make running downhill with good form difficult and I end up actually going quite slow in it on those sections, I swapped to my Novablast 4 for the same route the other week and it felt so much more natural going downhill. One thing I love about the SB2 is my feet feel well looked after at the end of a long run. So I like the SB2 but it's not a game changer for me.

So, three pairs in total now which will bring me through this and next year 😊

Thank you for a brilliant review, attempting to answer the biggest question we all face since the release of the almighty Superblast - what are the alternatives? Their greatest superpower (and there are many), in my mind, is their durability. From a pair of Hoka Cliftons (or anything from Hoka...), I struggle to get more than 280km before they feel dead. Same with Asics Novablast, they just die really quick. But Superblasts are now up to 500km and show no signs of flattening out. Pretty cool.

I was doing my own research for SB2 alternatives about a month ago after I gave up all hope of ASICS ever restocking in my size. I had also been checking eBay most days and a couple of weeks ago found a new pair of the Paris colourway in my size.... The cost was upwards of £200... Thinking I would never find it again on eBay or the Asics website again I bit the bullet and went for it. The very next day they'd restocked the new violet and grey/powder blue colourways 😂 couldn't believe it! Don't regret it so much now though as absolutely love the Paris colourway.

I am still having a pair of the first edition of the superblast that still has a few hundred km to go, but given all the fuzz with the availability and all the hype, I knew that it would be unclear if I could get them at a later stage, so I did purchase a pair of SB2. I haven't used them so far though, as I have plenty of other shoes in my current rotation and I still need to finish breaking in the metaspeed edge paris for my (first) marathon next month as well. Once that's done and my focus isn't on the final phase of the marathon-training anymore, I will put the SB2 into action. My daily trainer has been the Nimbus for a few iterations already and I really love it. It's great for easy runs, long runs (have done 30+km with them) and as a recovery shoe.

An underrated plus to the SB 2's firmness is it is way more accommodating for heavier runners. I previously had a pair of Novablast 3s that I had to retire at only 350km because the midsole had quite literally twisted to the point the sole no longer sits flat. I would also feel them bottom out when gunning it down hills. At my 100kg the superblasts however feel so much more stable. No bottoming out, no sideways roll in the midsole, pretty much a perfect long run trainer for me.

I actually got the Superblast 2 paris at launch, and i sent it back after about 30k. Not that its a bad shoe, but compared to my Superblast 1, it was stiffer/firmer, and the added stack in the heal kept getting in my way running mid and forfoot a bit. Overall though, it felt more like a nimbus 26 in slower miles. I dont like the Nim26 at all. It so stiff. And i think the first superbalst did a far better job at being the most comfortable shoe ever, than what both nim25 or 26 were advertising to be. So i guess for me it was probably a feel over use desicion on my end to sent it back. ordered a second superblast 1 now, and will probably give the superblast 2 another chance if they do another sunrise red colourway :D
@philipppuchner11152 ай бұрын
How do you send a shoe back after using it for 30k or however long? The shop CANNOT sell the shoe as new! The only one return policy for used shoes i know of (and i am sure there is so much i don't know) is Brooks itself, and those is really astounding with 90 days done to the shoe whatever you want. So basically, you can run the shoe into the ground and then exchange it for a new one. I hope nobody exploits this, because then those return policy will change for sure. I've basically always heard of the SB2 beeing like a brocken in SB1 - so beeing, a tiny bit softer. Added stack? Both SB1 and SB2 have the same stack (official difference is 0.5 milimeters!) I also hate the Nimbus 26, it is too sinky soft and the outsole slaps onto the ground like crazy - so loud, no matter what you do! And after running in it the first time, my calves were cooked! So, having debunked a few things, i would suggest that you probably didn't get an original SB2 but a fake one. I cannot be 100% sure since i don't have a SB2, because i haven't even run in my SB1 that much. But more in my Novablast 4 TR.

@ianwalker61382 ай бұрын
I have both - love the ES4 for shorter interval and tempo/threshold speed sessions up to about HM distance whereas, as Ben suggests, the SB2 is more geared towards your longer runs during HM/marathon training where you want to switch between easy pace and then pick it up for some chunks at race pace effort.

i have two pairs of the superblast 2 and would literally legally marry the shoe

The big problem remains - for a manufacturer who has catered well for larger footed runners. The Superblast isn't made for runners with sizes around 50.5 plus. As if to say people like me don't want to run fast, and sadly neither do the other options you mention. Please have a word with them Ben, you could be our only hope.

I have the Neo Vistas. My only gripe is that I feel more unstable especially in the ankles. If running on trails or uneven surfaces, I feel much more likely to twist an ankle. I find that they really activate my shin splints more than other shoes as well. That being said, extremely soft/bouncy.

350 miles into my first pair of Superblast 2 and they’re still absolutely solid! I jumped when I got an availability notification a while back for the new color way (which, admittedly, I’m not a huge fan of), and when I tried them out I honestly couldn’t tell much of a difference aside from maybe the newer shoe feeling a bit more heel slip (not enough to be uncomfortable, though - just a brand-new-shoe-thing). I picked up some Saucony Endorphin Pro 3 on a killer deal a while back thinking I’d use them for a November marathon, but honestly I’m pretty sure I’m just gonna stick with the Superblast 2 for the race after all :) For anyone that happened to read this far and has experience in both: What are people’s thoughts about how the Metaspeed Sky (or Edge) Paris feel compared to the Superblast 2?

I like that you are not beholden to any particular shoe brand.
