My first projector was a BenQ. They are some of the best projectors for the price and are very flexible! Their colors are almost perfect for any of the projectors they sell. For me not only was it the perfect starter projector they also make some really good high end projectors as well!

I recently picked up a Xgimi Horizon Pro 4K 3D projector for only $1,275. For that price it's a no brainer as it does everything great. It's super bright and what I love the most is the motion handling that it does. It's so smooth which is great for certain genre especially for 3D content. I'm upgrading from the Nebula Cosmos Max which was mostly great but had a rough start though. It's more refined now but still has focusing issues. It was promised to do 3D and that was one reason why I got it. They took this feature away and I was told that they wasn't going to bring it back. This cause me to keep looking for my 3D projector and I've been eyeballing the Horizon Pro for a while. I'm going be looking into picking up a portable 1080p 3D projector later this year. I might just pick up the Halo+ just due to it's motion handling!

I don't understand why someone would pick this projector over the HT3550. I know the 3550 is a year older but it is brighter (2000 vs 1500) and about the same price. Is there something I'm missing as to why someone would recommend this over the 3550?

Well, that 3d must be with active shutter glasses since there is only one projector bulb. Passive would be preferable. Active glasses are dim, are complex and will break in time, and then you may not get them replaced at a later date.

@@ericperry72 I think you’d be looking at high end projectors like a Christie or something similar. Avatar 2 was the first HFR movie I’d seen as well- looked pretty cool!

@@ericperry72 That would be fantastic, though so far Hisense hasn’t added 3D capability to any of their laser tvs. AWOL Vision added 3D through firmware at the behest of their customers, maybe we can get them to add HFR.

Great review! People usually mention "DLP black level", I own 2 JVCs projector that really have a good black floor, but if the image has a little more higher APL (average picture level) the contrast ratio gets much lower than my DLP Sim2 Mico 50, each at the time was a high end DLP with LED light source. I know that in the BenQ case, being an entry level projector, the black must be worst compared to what I have in my projector, but even entry level DLP projectors are really good in higher APL images, for those with kids, Disney movies usually looks awesome with it, but in really dark and washed out movies, like the new Batman, the JVC/Sony projectors will do a much better job (but it costs much more).

They don't make passive 3D projectors unfortunately, a manufacturer would have to make an commercially available 3D sync module that you would place in front of the projector lens, then you'd need a polarized projector screen to get it working properly

Thanks for the video Shane. Would love to see a side by side comparison of this vs the Dangbei mars pro. I know the Dangbei is brighter but this BenQ might have better black levels. Also the dangbei currently does not support 3d bluray... 🤬

There is no reliable way for 3D, high gain screens loose contrast in untreated environments, just choose a brighter 3D projector >2500 ANSI lm, DLP or 3LCD

Is the rainbow effect as a parent in person as it is in the video or is that just a camera artifact?

It is just a camera artifact, not RBE, however it is related to the color switching of DLPs causing RBE for some people, thus always purchase a DLP with the option of send it back and refund.

because its marketed as easier to live with and set up. You can basically just throw this on a table or stool and it will auto keystone and you good to go, so more portable then other projectors.

Usually DLP - 3d active shutter glass. Your cinema glasses or even active 3d glasses from televisions won't work.

x3000 is less lag for gaming and has less keystone features, 3000lumens vs 1500 on this projector. This is more for cinema, x3000 is more tailored for gaming.

Local projector retailer in my area stopped carrying Benq projectors. When I asked one of the employee's why, they stated too many issues. Kind of turned me off from the brand. Looks like the Xgimi Horizon Pro and Dangbei Mars Pro have new competition.

@@car103d le televisioni è da quasi una decina d'anni che non hanno più il 3D neanche le Top di gamma, nei cinema è sparito (portato il sala solo da Avatar 2, giusto perché il primo era stato lanciato con il 3D) ormai è una tecnologia che se pur molto bella, non ha preso piede ed è morta in breve tempo, se mancano gli apparati per riprodurlo, non vende.. è considerato blasonato anche dalle catene che vendono audio video, non si trovano quasi più se non negli store online.

@@NitroRemix1 La tua visuale è corretta ma un po’ limitata ai negozi, che il 3d è morto è una bufala, è solo sparito dalle tv perché dal 2015 è su quasi tutti i videoproiettori home cinema da 500-1000€ in su i quali non vengono mai esposti nei negozi di tv nemmeno per il 2D (diremmo che la video proiezione è morta per questo?) se no venderebbero molto meno se la gente vedesse un film su proiettore invece di un 50” (gli schermi tv erano perlopiù di quel taglio fino a pochi anni fa, quelli giganti 70-80” son recenti e quasi improponibili a casa, sono un’ultra-nicchia, invece dei proiettori con telo avvolgibile da 90-150”). Il 3D sulle tv più comuni sotto i 60” difettava di impatto per ‘effetto teatrino’ rispetto a uno schermo da 100” e così han pensato di dividere il mercato facendo comperare entrambi i prodotti. Come ho detto i film ci sono sempre stati e ci sono ancora, ricerca se vuoi verificare e vedi quanti ce ne sono, anche i lettori bluray 3d (da 100€ in su full hd) non sono mai spariti, quelli ultra hd lo sono quasi tutti. Il tuo è un discorso molto comune ma disinformato di chi guardando solo ai comuni negozi si è perso la transizione sui proiettori. Che non credo diresti morti solo perché non son venduti nei negozi di tv frigo e aspirapolvere ma in negozi dedicati, come anche avviene per l’hi-fi di qualità. Inoltre credi che esista solo Cameron e Avatar per supportare il 3D a livello popolare quando semmai è stato quello solo un contenuto di nicchia, come tutta la fantascienza, che ha fatto ben poco rispetto a tantissimi altri contenuti, film, cartoni e documentari in quantità. Oltre a forum dedicati molto frequentati. Stando a un sondaggio ben oltre il 50% degli utenti di video proiezione esige il 3D su un nuovo proiettore. Perciò dire che il 3d sia morto, non solo ridimensionato, è una bufala che circola come quella di certi personaggi che sarebbero morti mentre son vivi e vegeti.

A projector is not a tv, it goes behind you not in front of you like a TV set + soundbar, you have to connect the ht system to the audio source not to the projector.
