When I taught at an elementary in Florida, we could collect crayon nubs, sort them by color, put them in paper cups and set them on the top of the fence. The next morning, we had cup-shaped crayons suitable for small hands.

I hope you're feeling better, Ben! Just an FYI: You'll destroy your silicone molds using direct flame on them. The best way to melt crayons, especially in a silicone mold, is to either microwave them (in short bursts, and make sure you watch it), or in the oven. Good luck, and God bless!

For future reference, there are crayon wrapper strippers which make quick work of removing the paper. Also, the freezer method.

This turned out so cool, and it looks like that could be a fun way to make planets. I am so glad the wax survived the resin curing! I do like the plain sphere, but it also looks good with the base as a display art. Guess that's my way of saying both? 😂

I don't know if you've heard yet, but putting the crayons in the freezer overnight, and only taking out a little sleeve at a time, the crayons fall out of their wrappers! Works wonders for me. This was such an awesome project. I too vote for the base on.

In school I got to do a very similar thing in manual arts class, we didn't put them on a lathe or anything but we got to choose something to get cast in resin on a base, which we could choose if it were a colour or not, and then had to sand down and polish. I chose a set of dice on a red base. I still have it on my kitchen shelf. I finished school in 2011 and it hasn't shown any signs of yellowing yet 🤞🏻

I would say take it off. The base means you can only look at it from a few ways. Removing the base would allow you to change the orientation to see it from every way! Love your videos! Hope you're feeling better!

Looks good with the base Possible alternative would be to mix a light sprinkling of coloured resin shavings, do it as a doughnut so the light can still shine through I suggest resin shavings because you're going to cut through them and they can be polished.

I like the base. I don't know if anyone else already suggested this but, you could pour a color base (red, blue, purple, etc) first, then a bit of clear, then glue down the piece and add the last of the clear Resin. It would take a bit longer overall, but I think it could be a cool effect. Another awesome project!! Thanks!!!

On. The base looks good. Also the light effect when it’s lit from underneath was really cool. Somehow the light reflected off the top curve and down onto the sides.. it looked like each side face of the cube had a down spotlight shining on it. Really cool!

Could be cool for future ones to drill a hole through the center of the cube on all axis to allow the light to shine through better. The center of the cube doesn't show color as much as you view it compared to the edges. Cool looking project though, leave the base 😊

I think leaving jt on makes it look more elevated. The problem with a base is that it fixes the perspective so you have to be certain that you are directing the viewer to where you want the piece to be seen. I cant believe this started out as crayons. 😮 Hows the shoulder feeling??
