Bent axle shaft

With the axle picked at a junkyard, I wanted to determine if the axle shaft was bent or if the housing was bent. It ended up just being the shaft.

Very helpful, just bought a dana 44 for my jeep got a free dana 30 with matching gearing with it. Only worry of mine was the dana 30 differential was hit, so now I can make a decision on what to do with it.

I got 14 ram crew cab hemi that does this in thinking just change axles? Does it on both wheels. Axles are about 350 each

whats the axle shaft called? i think i have the same issue. i'be got that one wheel rear driver side that wobbles. thanks to this video i may have found the issue.

Great video. I think my front Axel bend. I took it apart and I can C cv joint rubbing in bottom of the housing. But I can't C looking bend. Can U eyeball a bend in the shaft? Cheers

It is very difficult to see by just eyeball unless it is really bad.

Nice but how can you tell once you remove the shaft to see if it is truly bent?

If you are referring to the axle housing, I have had the best luck removing the carrier and looking straight through one tube to the other end. You should see concentric circles. If the edges of the circle aren't the same distance the whole way around then it is bent

I appreciate that but no I was referring to the axles themselves, once I get the new axles in I will run it with the tires off to check

@@moparlover1968rr use a tradesmans square , sit square on back of the axle flange against the axle . Check multiple points on the axle flange .. its easier to do than explain.. but a tradesman square is all I need .. it looks like a L with rulers on both sides..

Can’t use one if it’s not a 90 degree, when you look at any axle, they all are tapered! So it’s impossible to line a square up! But besides that, I installed a new axle and no change in vibration, which means my axle was perfectly fine! Although a local shop said it needs replaced lol

Can a ben axel shaf u cam still drive the car tell u replace it will damage the differential

It is not good to drive with bent axle shaft.

I bought an accident damaged vehicle from an auction and the diff housing was slightly bend, I bought a brand new diff housing but after installation the rear right wheel is wobbling. I am suspecting the half shaft...my question is can the half shaft be straightend ?

It is better and easier to just get another shaft from the junkyard.

I have a 2013 mustang gt with both rear tires worn more from outer half than inner half. The wear from outside to inner is gradual. Is this sign of bent axle housing?

I got the same issue too. However, my right rear wheel is noticeable toed out but does not wiggle. I don't know what replace

@@BongelaMnguni frame damage? bent lower control arm? bent shock? upper control arm? check all these suspension parts thats connected. My new tires does not have these type of wear that i used to anymore, im strating to think tires before was very soft and any hard turns wear out the outer tires more
