I find myself particularly drawn to these cars. I could never own one but thanks for a great video.

These Green Label cars aren’t very expensive Stephen , because they were not considered to be the one to have. Like most things in life , if you really want to do something you will do it .

I'm also a fan of the Green Label, it would be what I would choose. The Red label wheels and tyres are a big improvement.

A beautiful looking Bentley Arnage Calder, and the very rare green label version no less with as you said the more modern BMW engine.I myself own the Rolls- Royce version the Silver Seraph 1999, which I enjoying driving very much. But my Bentley Brooklands 1995 champagne colour ,what else is my favorite vehicle. Thanks for showing. Cheers.

I did a lot of reasearch on the Bentley Arnage a few years ago and found that this green label model with the 4.4ltr engine was the pick of them all and most likely the most dependable. I have often wondered if a 5ltr straight 6 might have been a better choice for this car. And without the turbo chargers. If I wanted a sports car I would have bought a sports car, and certainly not this car.

The limiting factor on this car was the 5 speed auto XF gearbox torque handling ability. But for this , Cosworth could have easily increased the power output substantially. Bentley could also have fitted the normally aspirated V12 as fitted to the Seraph at the expense of a little power , and thus not as sporty as a Bentley was perceived to be in comparison to the Rolls Royce.? A straight six of 5 litre would have a longer block than the 5 litre V12 ( because of the bore diameter required for an over square reasonably powerful unit ). So I wonder if it would fit easily? I remember how long the block was on my 4.2 E Type .

....elegance and style - rounded off rather than angular ....I've always wondered if there'd be a market for reproductions of vintage styling ....but with modern engines and electronics ? What I mean is like the Triumph bikes for example - a huge market for people who love the retro styling but want modern reliability ...but would the same idea work for the car market ?!

Too bad the 5-speed ZF gearbox couldn't handle more than 420 lb-ft, that limited the output of the BMW engine. Had the gearbox been rated to a higher torque, I'm fairly certain they would've tuned this engine to put out more power, maybe 400 hp or more. I did read that the 2000 models had stiffer body shells, to cope with the heavier 6.75L engine, and this was also done to the BMW-engined examples, plus the larger wheels and brakes.

Absolutely agree the ZF box was the limiting factor. It would have been easy for Cosworth to deliver well over 400. However , in driving you are aware that the power is in the midrange. Certainly in the UK the power is more than adequate for this type of vehicle , and the economy and handling is creditable given the age of the vehicle.

@@calderdale6795 I see many praises to them, but it's curious how unappreciated and underrated they seem to be for most fans. But then again, it's the same with Rolls-Royce enthusiasts and the Silver Seraph. Maybe it's because they were brand-new cars when I was a kid back in the late 90's, I grew up reading magazines showing reviews and articles about them, and I'm very fond of them. The purists would probably crucify me, but if I had a Red Label, I think I'd swap the engine for a Chevrolet LS3, but custom-built to perform as close to the stock unit as possible: * 416-ci stroker kit, taking the displacement to 6.8L, closest to the 6.75L; * single turbo * cam and tune for low revs/low-range torque Different from the usual builds people do with these engines. And the stock transmission is already from GM, so... The focus would be to improve handling (I think the LS weighs more or less the same as the M62, maybe even less, the difference is probably small) as well as making maintenance even easier (in case of living in the US, at least) than the M62...plus, the aftermarket support is off-the-charts. And besides, the recipe of British car with American engine is nothing new, yet a great one. The Shelby Cobra as well as many other models are proof of it. 😁👍🏻

Quite right , the Green Label and Seraph are not popular with most Crewe built car enthusiasts. However , that makes them more affordable to those in the know. Why people want the heavy old V8 designed in the 1950s , then stroked to 6.75 is a mystery to me. The original 6.3 in my 1964 Silver Cloud was the best option and was of its time . Yes , the Chevy implant would be an excellent upgrade and would upset the purists nicely…….

@@calderdale6795 I'd say it was purism combined with the necessity for a gasoline engine with tons of low-range torque. The Red Label came about because of the deal between BMW and the VW Group, but I guess they didn't have an engine suited for the task, back then. Of all the brands owned by the group, my guess is that Audi could be the best to offer a solution. For the Arnage, the choice could've been the 4.2L V8 twin turbo from the RS6, in terms of power/torque, but that engine was still a few years away. In any case, that would've been just as absurd for the purists as the BMW unit was. 😂 So, in the end, I guess bringing the 6.75L back to action also had a bit of "working with what you have." into it. 🤷🏻♂️ But I do wonder...if VW Group had not made the deal and purchased Bentley, if the Arnage continued to be made with a BMW heart, I wonder if it would've sold well...or what would be the result of the 'future' improvements for the M62 engine. One can only imagine. Congrats for the example, by the way! 👍🏻 And sorry for the huge message. 😅
