I bought one of those 35 years ago and still use it.

I have just bought one one of these little stoves, (20/11/2019) as I like to renovate them, I am told it is an early 1950s stove, as I am retired, all cleaned up now, I replaced the wick as it was insufficient in drawing the fuel from the tank, the jet was clogged up, and I polished the metal box the best I could as it was Aluminium, but I only cook with stainless steel, runs like a dream now.

i'm pretty sure these came out in the late-60's early 70's after optimus took over production of the previous primus designs, i have never seen a primus-branded 99 or 199. i have seen lots of primus-branded 8r's though.

What did you use to prime it? What kind of fuel did you use? Please help
@Enderskocher10 жыл бұрын
For a clean prime you can use alcohol. You can also use the gasoline, but it will make your stove dirty.

Enderskocher Thank you! What kind of fuel did you use for inside the tank?

Lindsey Fabiano I'm having problem with mine; I can heat it up or prime it so that when I turn the key, it makes a hissing gas sound, however it won't seem to light or stay on after the primer has run out. It sputters on and off. I used yellow "heet" for my main fuel. What do you think could be wrong?
@Enderskocher10 жыл бұрын
Lindsey Fabiano Hello, I think it is a cleaning problem. Clean the nozzle or replace the nozzle. Make a test: Remove the burner head. Preheat the stove. Now you have presure into the tank. pen the regulation. Now we have a fine jet of fuel leakage. The jet must be straight and be about a meter high. I take car petrol or coleman - fuel . Greetings from Germany

Lindsey Fabiano HEET is methanol, (alcohol) You must use Coleman camp fuel. Also called "White Gas". Use the heet to prime.

Some other Optimus stove here videos leave a lot to be desired. This one actually makes the use of such backpacker stoves seem feasible.

When you turn the valve all the way to the left the cleaning needle comes out and snuffs out the flame. You only need to move the valve to the halfway mark. There was an optional pump (which I have) that made lighting easier. I purchased my 99 in the 1970's.
