Good read. I’m unclear as to why so many parts were skipped though.

From what I understand this story is so old that it was only ever written on stone pillars. So skips in the story are sections that have either been lost to time or have not been discovered or translated yet by archaeologists

@@The12thOwl No, i'm reading the book at the same time, but the narrator skips sections of it.

Yes. Difficult to listen to with students if they have the Seamus Haney text.

I tried to listen to this audio side by side with the Word file of Seamus Heaney's verse translation on my desktop computer but was disappointed that the audiobook skips quite a lot of sentences or sections and I lost track. I gave up doing it. Too bad.

I'm not personally educated on this subject enough to know if this is an abridged version or not, but the narration is helpful and good, it's read with intentionality and care. Thanks for this free resource ~

I think it is abridged. Even the unabridged version isn’t complete tho cause the manuscript that preserves this text was partially destroyed I believe it was by fire

@@Bys_cniht Oh interesting, I never looked into it, but the audiobook seemed a bit short so you're probably right

Why did Beowulf not have a son? I thought that was one of the saddest parts of the whole story - he died a hero but a hero without hope of a lineage… no son to carry on his name… 🐺🌲🗡️
