This piece (no. 19) comes from the second of the two books that form Vierne's 24 Pièces en style libre. It is dedicated to his daughter Colette. The Pièces en style libre may be played on the harmonium (without pedals as the feet are required to pump the bellows), as well as on the organ.
A berceuse is a lullaby. Although this is essentially a gentle piece, Vierne cannot help but introduce his characteristic moments where the mood becomes rather darker.
