Thank you for covering Berengaria..very few people have ever taken time to cover this Beautiful Queen. Very sad that the fates conspired to keep King Richard and his Queen apart..in life and in death.

Never heard of her before, but it's quite surprising that she never been to England, unusual. It's also quite astonishing how much is still known about her life. History is amazing and you present it well. Thank you 😊

Thanks Anita, to be honest very little is known about her. The main line is she never stepped foot in England! 😊

Unfortunately documenters of the time weren't much interesting in recording info about women, Queen or not.

Of course I knew who Berengaria was! I'm old enough to remember the Errol Flynn Robin Hood film and I'm sure she came up in there somewhere since Robin was all about projecting England from evil Prince John while Richard was off in the Crusades. Childhood memories stick around for a long time. Enjoyed learning more about her.

King Richard and Berengaria were married by their chaplain Nicholas, who became the bishop of Le Manche. After Richard's return, they built a small castle near Le Manche, Toree. And she was there to be close to her husband. Chroniclers contradict each other. They did not pay attention to the barren queen. She didn't have to be so sad during Richard's life. Richard and Eleonora simply attracted attention to each other, today they would like to attract the tabloids to each other. and Berengaria was closed, shy. like that. and that she was buried in Le Manche? she had orphanages there, lived there for many years. maybe she wanted v in fontervrault but her friends buried her in epaut. you know, when richard was dying, he forgave his murderer, and when he died, the murderer was tortured to death. they probably wanted to have Berengaria with them. not far. little is known about her.

I recall Berengere funded the Abbaye du Epau, but it was not finished in her lifetime. In other words it was finished after 1230. I am not aware of any sources that the Angevins prevented her burial at the Abbaye du Fontevraud.
@richardpaschal221811 ай бұрын
In 1230 the French King controlled Northern France. Henry III could not have prevented Berengere's burial at Fontevraud. Here actual name was Berenguela. Likely she answered to Berengere. Would have hated the English version of her name.

1:06 the art of drawing and painting was definitely at its infancy or just not very high up the priority list in those days, i see some similar to this of Edward Longshanks and its nearly identical style ...obviously emphasis was on law order food and survival back then... 2:41 clearly a skills upgrade here from the paintings earlier....Love stories with applicable photos!

Berengaria of Navarre- great name! 👑👑👑 Short and sweet. Not much to go on regarding info but worked well with what you had. Fantastic and creative as always with that new intro theme Jon, sparkly and very apt. 💥 💖 Berengaria's effigy at L'Épau Abbey amazingly still exists and is a fine piece of work. Thanks so much Jon. Looking forward to more great Medieval content this year 🙏

I think they thought she was never a part of the family. Apart from getting married you could probably count your fingers as to how much time they spent together. Plus they had no children. That's my opinion, hope it helps 😊

Thanks Brian, although there has always been much conjecture about Richard. Maybe the subject of his sexuality is for another day. 😊
