You can't put Zaraki in a dilemma; he doesn't give a fuck about philosophy. He was literally dying from Unohana's attacks, and after a few concerns, he forgot about that and continued to fight. Moreover, you need to understand what your opponent is saying and doing; for example, if he speaks in a different language or uses undefined terminology, you won't make a communication; it's just a random noise, which in this case equals deafness. It doesn't work against me either, because I'm solving those like nothing. I'm good at making radical choices.

Berenice's power wouldn't have worked on Zaraki anyway due to the fact that Jerome's power didn't work on him. Jerome's power The Roar was blowing shinigami heads up but only made Zaraki have a bit of hearing loss.
