Glad I picked up a old/rarely used Beretta 626 onyx, really enjoy shooting a side by side for clays …good to see Beretta, Fausti , FAIR, CZ and Rizzini making side by sides they’re a lot of fun to shoot. People are missing out on the experience.

I personally prefer the English stock over the pistol grip for this particular gun to retain its value and more pleasant to the eye, the English stock is used fir far more expensive guns such as James Purdey for example and by the way, it’s not that terribly uncomfortable, you have to get used to it. Nice review mate. I hope you could do a review on Chapuis Armes UGP Classic SXS

I have one in 20 bore which I use mostly for clay shooting, I like the SBS configuration, and as you say, if you're going to choose anything to kill clays and its a SBS, it's this gun. I suppose its a modern equivalent of a live pigeon gun almost.....

Seems like everybody at my place {Garland Mountain} uses O/U guns. So when I started a little over a year ago, that's what I bought for me and my boys and learned on those. Then I came across a SxS Merkel and bought it for the novelty. It's choked F-XF so if you're not Annie Oakley, it's tough with clays. Sadly, no one at the club shoots them so we've been faking our way with it. In that I'm looking for another one and Brit guns are pretty pricey, this might fill the bill!

Thanks for the review. An interesting option for a modern and realistically priced side by side. I know it’s not your thing but maybe a topic which will be of interest given the upcoming issues with lead in older guns. Best English guns are all very well but not realistic for most.

Hi Lloyd, You say this is a good value gun. I’m not challenging you on this. I was just wondering as it is more expensive than the equivalent 69x beretta over and under, what makes it good value? Better finish or ergonomics than a 690 or silver pigeon?
@lloydyp3 жыл бұрын
As a game gun? It's a very different proposition from an equivalent O/U and I wouldn't compare the two. Either you want an SxS, or you want an OU. I can't imagine a shopping list that had an either or choice between the 2 formats.
@karelh46433 жыл бұрын
@@lloydyp Yes as game gun indeed. Ok I get it. Pretty limited number of choice in modern SxS indeed. They all cost more than a O/U. Nice review btw. I’d be interesting if you did a review on steel clay cartridges sometime. We’re been using them over here for a long time without issue so I’d be interesting to get the perspective from the English shooters. Cheers.

Looks attractive accept for the ejectors, 3" chambers, grip, wide fore-stock and the screw-ins?!? You've taken a game gun that should feel like a svelte, agile, young lass with curves in all the right places and turned her into that Shrek girl!! SOMEONE explain "the advantages" of those aforementioned abominations you gushed over in a shotgun intended to be a game gun, especially in the diminutive gauges? Again, NOT a clays gun. If you want to shoot clays, why not use a clays gun? If you want a sweet game gun, the features on this particular gun are offensive/detractive. To be fair - from this end of this medium - that gun appears to have the feel of a boat oar! FEEL is what true game guns are ALL about. They aren't synthetic, like clays guns. FEEL is what makes game guns sumptuous, a joy to carry, hold and deploy. FEEL lends itself to an experience that completely overshadows sterile stats. If you want numbers, buy a numbers/clays gun. Furthermore, that boat-dock-of-a-fore-stock is downright ugly too! It should be a sliver. 3" shells won't make you a more effective gunner. Actually, they do the opposite. Spend your time learning to be more effective rather than relying on hot rounds that actually compromise downfield performance. Learn HOW to shoot as well as what to shoot. So, let's just suggest that I get the rare access to a private "piece of heaven" to rough shoot game birds. There I am with my ejectors gun. The bird(s) lift and boom...boom! Open that gun quickly because.....um...hmmm....why? By-the-way, the landowner is going to be just thrilled to find your empty hulls in his fields, isn't he? Oh...wait...your going to trap or catch them right? ...sure you are.... Add to this that you might actually enjoy reloading. I guess you better be proficient at catching or better yet, hunting ejected hulls rather than birds. You know exactly what I speak of. ;) OR....you could get extractors! (Duuh...) Screw-in chokes...I've saved the best for last. So, I can "rough shoot" my game guns at anything from pheasants to quail/woodcock with one set of chokes simply because modern shot-shells offer a FAR wider spectrum of variety/performance than chokes ever will. It's back to school again for you. Do you know what screw-in chokes remind me of? They remind me of those really colourful, fancy, cool, fishing lures that are wonderful at luring buyers but literally scare fish out of their scales! :) That said, I quite enjoy your vids Sir! Thank you.
