The M9 was one of the first 9mm pistols I ever shot. Back in 2003, I went to the range with my family. My cousin, a Marine that had been deployed during Desert Storm, had an M9 and let me shoot it. First shots were typical, but I eventually I felt at home with it. Years later, I can say that I am a proud owner of an Italian 92fs as my first pistol.

Served 8 years in the US Marine Corps, the M9 Beretta is an outstanding weapon, carried it with complete confidence, never a problem or malfunction! And yes a few Special Ops Marines will carry the Colt 1911, but the official pistol of The Marine Corps is the Beretta M9 and will stay that way. The USMC is also purchasing some M9A1's with the light rail, so no change anytime soon! Love my personal Beretta M9!

As an additional note, The Air Marshalls post 911 were issued Barettas in 40 cal. S&W. It's a pleasant gun to shoot as is the 92FS. I've shot .45's in the Navy and .45's that were recal'd to .22 down in San Diego when I went through basic. Reasons being is cost and to ease wear and tear on the range. The 1911 was reliable and dependable in it's day. The Barettas are also quite light, every oz of weight counts when your marching along for 30 or 40 miles.
@agus200111 жыл бұрын
I used to be another brain-washed .45 fan boy until we got hit by an IED in Balad. My window and door rendered inoperable and I could only stick my arm out through a small opening, and we were taking fire on both sides, Obviously my M4 could not fit through and aiming was next to useless. I made due with my M9 and was able to keep several insurgents down for a while. Accuracy that's second to none, high ammo capacity, and able to work in any environment. I'll keep my M9 over a 1911 any time.

Or you could have best of both worlds and have a Glock 21. :) But you got to work with what you have. All handguns suck compared to rifles, we have them because as you noted, it is what can only be used in the situation at hand. Thanks for your service and never let anyone try to tell you that your service was pointless or other trash because you guys were defending America even if you didn't directly connect the dots and even if the media tries to tell the public otherwise.

@Th3m4X92 There is a Beretta in Italy, and the Beretta family is indeed italian. However, the M9s are made in America, by Americans. Beretta USA employs hundreds of American workers and pays Federal taxes right here in the USA.
@BerettaCommunity11 жыл бұрын
John - This is a common misconception. The USMC has always had a small, special group (a few hundred ppl on the unit) who use 1911 models. This group simply purchased new models. We are still, and will continue to be, the official sidearm of the Armed Forces, including the USMC. We'd also appreciate it if you could abide by our rules and not use offensive terms.

Ya see guys, this is the kind of soldier I'm talking about: one that doesn't give the m9 a load of criticism cause he is smart enough to know that it is NOT a crappy gun as what many m9 haters out there say about it when it really isn't (I bet most m9 haters have never even shot one before). I think they should learn to grow up and accept it. Certainly it is not a perfect gun, but it's good enough as exhibited in the fact that it has proven itself time and time again. I salute you sir!

The P226 cost less per pistol than the 92F, but SIG's package price with magazines and spare parts was higher than Beretta's. The Navy SEALs, however, chose to adopt the P226 later after a repetition of failures with some issued Beretta M9s.

The P226 was designed for entry into the XM9 Service Pistol Trials, which were held by the US Army in 1984 on behalf of the US armed forces to find a replacement for the M1911A1. Only the Beretta 92F and the SIG P226 satisfactorily completed the trials. According to a GAO report, Beretta was awarded the M9 contract for the 92F due to better durability during endurance testing and a lower total package price.

Shootcentermass. The Beretta 92 is the most reliable firearm I've ever owned. I've shot probably around 10K rounds through it. Not a single malfunction. I've shot cheap ammo, steel case ammo, several varitiies of JHP ammo through it. Its fed and shot every single round I've put through it. The firearm is every bit as reliable as any ammo manufacturer. The design had problems initially back in the 1980s which have been fixed. Its probably the most reliable centerfire firearm in existence.

@i7q You are correct sir. But the 8000 wasn't the best thing they came up with. The 92 was hit while the 8000 was a bit of a miss. Especially the 8045. A double stack .45 that only packs one more round than a single stack 1911. The 92 is great but we shouldn't forget the Hi-power and similar were around long before the consideration to adopt the 92 as the uniform sidearm. I guess it was chose for style more than function.OR the bid for the contract was too good to say no. :D

@chayboy181811 жыл бұрын
I own the px4 .40 in full size. It's great, I have about 500 rounds through it with 0 malfunctions. Though I clean it regardless of how many rounds I put through it, also. The negative sides to the .45 are that you have a small capacity mag, and the round is just big and slow. That's why it's used for silencing a weapon. It's Subsonic. There's subsonic and super sonic. Look it up if you don't know. You need sub sonic to get the "more silent effect". Plus the baretta has a 15+1 capacity in the 92fs for the 9mm. Why do you think they carry .5.56 in their primary weapon? Smaller ammo = more ammo. Yeah. 9mm will work just fine. I'd only rather have a .45 on me if I was hiking (I live in Alaska) and need to defend vs a bear. But a .45 has low penetration.
@maxwellihm537311 жыл бұрын
With bear I wouldn't have anything less that a .44 magnum if I could only carry a pistol, but i'd take a levergun with a shortened stock and a 16-18 inch barrel in 45/70 or .454 casull if I could take a larger gun.

i love 1911's and beretta 92's, but the one thing i dont care for about the 92's is how easy they are to take apart by a enemy, its as simple as grabing the gun, pushing the button, then the barrel pops off.

@KING5TORM1418 Yup, same deal. AND the 1911 is a great gun. It does prove the original is always best. The 1911 is still in the arsenal and is an optional carry depending on who you are. I'm sure the 92 was chose over the 1911 due to it's safety redundancy. It has so many safety features it's stupid. But the military will give a gun to anyone. So better safe than sorry The 1911 allows easy conceal and carry of multiple 1911's due to it's slim design. So it's also a backup option.

Our Beretta's are made in the U.S.A. And there are differences between American Berettas and Italy's, aside from the stampings. Also many of the variations made in the U.S are only made in the U.S and the same goes for italian variations.. It is American craftsmanship. Our Berettas are crafted/fabricated by Americans on American soil in an American factory.

Goes bang when you go click. What more can you ask for? I'm pretty sure 9mil was adapted because of other NATO countries using 9mil. Simple, big mag capacity, and one of the best firearms manufacturer inthe world. 1911's should have been retired back in the 60's, old,heavy, only 7rds in the mag. So The video claims craftsmanship NOT engineering. I don't know who the Engineer of the 92 is, I never cared to look it up or I don't recall. Beretta owns the rights to the design but many engingeers all over the world design things and sell their design to the highest biddders. Most auto pistols makers get most if not all of their design ideas from Browning, he was the greatest gun engineer to ever live. He was American, but he sold his designs throughout europe as well as the U.S.A

I also think that is a little biased and an unreasonable issue for the military *not* to pursue a Glock contract. While the Beretta is not even close to being "Obsolete" it could be replaced by something but who knows what and when and they may not even change pistols. Remember the 1911 was issued to GI's for about 60 years. It STILL hasn't been phased out and is used by some Army Spec Op's, Navy and Marine Corp currently. Personally speaking- I prefer a .45 ACP for combat deployment over a 9mm but that's personal preference. Source: Military.com (Article: tinyurl.com/jrqdovy) EDIT: Most Police Dept's currently issue a Glock already and have been for sometime (depends on dept. budget and politics obviously). Those who can carry their personal firearm (that I have seen locally to me) are M&P's in 9 mm/40 S&W, Sig P229's and a few (very few) Colt 1911's in the 4" barrel. But it seriously varies by location and what I said before. Honestly I can't remember seeing any officer carrying a M9 or variant of it. Not saying they NEVER do, just my personal observation in my years.

Hmm, interesting little segment here. I didn't know Beretta owned Burris/Bellini and the rest... While owning a few Burris items I never thought to see who the parent company was. It is always good to be diversified, and I love my Burris optics! Side note comment (NOT as an insult either)- Whenever I hear _"Beretta 92FS"_ I instantly have an image of a slicked back long haired Jean-Claude Van Damme shooting one while diving sideways in a slow motion scene taking out 10 bad guys before landing. Must be because I am a child of the 80's and watched way too much TV/Movies at that time that made it stick with me. (Image link- tinyurl.com/zqa4ztu )
