On the 9th January 2010 I took a trip on the 2km long Rheineck-Walzenhausen mountain railway, which begins at the mainline SBB station of Rheineck and winds it way up to the village of Walzenhausen, 267m higher.
This railway has one item of rolling stock; the 1958 built BDeh 1/2 railcar from SLM/FFA/BBC. Maximum speed is 30km/h, and only 13km/h while descending the rack section! The gauge is unusual at 1200mm, while the overhead voltage is 600V DC which leads to some fairly impressive visible arcing in the tunnels.
Shot on the Canon EOS 5D Mark II camera, with 24-105mm lens. Many thanks to the driver of the train who was so pleased to have us aboard!
