Berhampur-Sambalpur railway line
This 240-kilometre-long line was supposed to start from Jagannathpur on the Bhubaneswar-Berhampur route and its culminating point would be at Rairakhol on Sambalpur-Angul route. It will touch Asika and Bhanjanagar in Ganjam district, Phulbani in Kandhamal district and Boudh and will have a total of 18 stations. It was the expectation of the people of the four districts that the new line would be instrumental in the financial growth of the areas. This apart, cargo transportation to and from Goplapur port will go up manifold.
It will pass through following stations with 5 tunnels, 38 major bridges and 184 minor bridges.

Even though CM Shri Naveen Patnaik is from Hinjili, Ganjam district no special efforts were taken to connect other parts of Ganjam to the Howrah - Chennai main line. Ganjam is one the largest districts of Odisha and with most number of NAC/Municipalities. An ancient popular place. Ganjam was one of 26 districts of erstwhile Madras Presidency. Hence, this railway line is very important to connect Ganjam with Phulbani, Boudha and to the Khurdha - Balangir route.

Ministry of Railways has rejected the Rairakhol - Gopalpur (Sambalpur - Brahampur) New Railway Project Final Location Survey (FLS) Details Project Report (DPR) prepared by Odisha Rail Infrastructure Development Limited (ORIDL) as its not going through Phulbani Town. And said untill the revision of alingment of FLS Survey as per PET Survey (which is via- Phulbani Town) the project will not be approved. Earlier PET Survey Prepared by DyCE/CON/ECoR/SBP as :- Gopalpur - Jagannathpur (Brahmapur) - Aska - Bhanjanagar - Badangi - Chakapada - JAGADHAPATA - PHULBANI - LAKADAPAJU - SUNAMUNDI - MUNDAPADA - Boudh - Rairakhol Present FLS Survey Prepared by ORIDL as :- Gopalpur - Jagannathpur (Brahmapur) - Aska - Bhanjanagar - Badangi - ABHAYAPUR - Chakapada - RUPAJHARI - Madhapur to Boudh (existing rail line of Khurda Balangir) - Rairakhol. Now ORIDL have two option, either change the alingment of FLS survey as per PET survey or to Quit the project. It is to be noted that earlier ORIDL has Quit the Bargarh Road - Nawapara Road via- Padampur, Junagarh Road - Nabrangpur via- Koksara & Baramura - Chakulia via- Baharagora New Railway Project which is presently under Railways for Construction Work.

Dasapalla Railway Station inaugurated by Railway Minister last week and trains are running from Khordha side to Dasapalla. Purunakatak Railway station will be ready soon. Purunakatak to Dasapala line will take a bit long time to be ready completely.

Long overdue.Phulbani should be connected with Ambadola at one side and on the other to either Chari Chhak or Gallery-Badangi through Chakapad- Gopalpur.Another route can connect Chakapad- G Udayagiri - Balliguda on the Phulbani -Ambadola line.All depend on technical feasibility and political will for the final decision.

It's not a good idea to leave Sonepur because with just extra 40 kms extension through Sambalpur to Sonepur its gets more passenger with most tourist destination(i.e. Uma Temple Dhama, Metakani Tample , Ullunda, Patali Shree Khestra, Bmpur ) which is connect more western odisha to South odisha. It's just an unnecessary connection between direct Sambalpur to Boudh. Very unfortunate and sad for an entire Sonepur district for neglected again and again.

Regarding Gopalpur -Rayagada Rail line survey done during 2012& estimated cost was rs 1392.32 cr for 258km, planning commission also approved. It will be Gateway of A.p, odisha & chatish garh.

Railways has made a huge mistake by making Langigarh Road a junction. Actually Narla Road which is a block head quarter and a big business hub should have been made the junction which is well connected with highways and most people of Kalahandi and parts of phulbani districts depend on Narla Road. Interestingly rail line from Junagarh to Langigarh Road ( a small village in the jungle) passes very close to Narla Road station. If a new rail line from Narla Road will be connected to Boudh through M. Rampur, Risida ( Karlamunda ) , Baliguda, G. Udayagiri , Phulbani , the expenditure will be comparatively less and beneficial for most of the places and people. The best option is to connect Junagarh Road - Langigarh Road rail line with Narla Road and then it should proceed from Narla Road towards Phulbani . If this is done the line will pass 50 - 60 % through plane Terrence
