@@tavitenorclef Im not art-deprived and stupid enough to write a solo piece for gong (also, why a gong?)

@@Alexander-oh8ry what calls a gong stupid? are you saying the gong is a useless instrument?

do you know the sole purpose of this all? the purpose of this composition is to showcase the oboe. the skill of the oboe, the "limits" of the oboe, it does so not melodically, not in a storyline type of sequence, but in a sort of catalog of sounds. Which is why it sounds non-conventional, a sort of meditation. The reason why I asked you to compose a solo for the gong is because... well, you need to push the limits of the gong, so you could dare to use it as an instrument. Here's an example of that; what if... the oboe could only play a C? well... the oboe would become useless right? No, we would attempt to use it different ways, we would attempt to push its limits without the feeling to be conventional. This, is exactly that, pushing the oboe to its limits and showcasing the masterful talents of the performer and instrument, if this were not by Mr. Berio, we would end up with that you call "dog vomit", they would not know when to properly use those techniques, they would only know the "vanilla" technique of the oboe, they would not explore the oboe, because is it not already enough? No. It is not. There is no limit to skill, nor is there a limit to how you can compose to the oboe. Perhaps you would understand any of what I said if you were more familiar with the instrument, maybe if you've listened to the oboe sound for two centuries straight?, that's exactly how it felt to the composers who composed for the oboe in this style. I must encourage you, develop your hunger for new things, explore. Really, that is the whole meaning of life and art, to explore skill and passion. Sorry for this long ass explanation, but sometimes you need to understand the meaning and purpose of certain things. Don't just shit on something you don't know anything about. If I told you to sit down and enjoy Ligeti Violin Concerto, you would instantly walk out of the room because you wouldn't understand a single thing you will hear, so please. If you want to have the ability to enjoy new things, you need to understand those new things first.

@@tavitenorclef Okay, I will explain my view of things in more detail. First, how can you assume I dont value a gong? Of course its a nice instrument, but not on its own. Would you go to a concert where somebody plays random unmusically sounding notes on a gong without accompaniment? Would you listen to this oboe piece and enjoy it, even though its a showcase of great talent that still sounds awful? Would you meditate to these sudden unsettling volume bursts and screeching harmonics? I doubt the composer, because what purpose is this music if it sounds awful? Why only write a C and "explore" if it sounds like a tinnitus? Musical challenges are fine, but at some point there is nothing artful left (there is still plenty of things left to do, but I dont find them artful. For example, that bass drum concerto where the solist literally breaks the felt at the end. Why?). This is not art, but either dry flexing material for elitists (if its difficult to do), or incredibly pretentious. And yes, I also write music and explore, but I dont go down the atonal and post-everything hellhole. I have a good idea of music and I recently wrote mongolian folk songs for wind orchestra with unique harmonies and accompaniments, for example. I shared it with people and they enjoyed it. If I wrote something like in the video instead, people would treat me like you politely treat a lunatic (except for elitists again, which will point out vague elitist jargon like "I like how you explored this, and the lack of structure is so enticing"). I also heavily criticise the opposite site of things where every song has a I vi IV V progression and it meaningless, but when listening to sequenza... I feel even less. Not only that, its not just "the composer didnt know better" its more like hes mocking the art itself. "Look, I have a professor in arts and I know so much about music that I write horrible sounding music on purpose". That piece sounds to me like architects building monotonous concrete cubes in brutalist style as "homes", or artists glueing a banana to a wall or literally defecating into jars and selling this "art" for thousands of dollars (true story).
