Ohhh, ich bin erschöpft. Ich war tausendmal auf dieser Straße. Es sah noch nie so seltsam aus. Die Gesichter...so kalt. In der Ferne weint ein Kind. Vaterlos ... vielleicht ein uneheliches Kind. I visited what was then East Berlin and West Berlin in August, 1990. I have no desire to make any return visits. Despite the problems that I saw in both East Berlin and East Germany. I liked East Berlin better. Much less commercialization. And a slower pace. I can understand why 'Ossis' feel like they were screwed by the so-called unification. More than 33 years after 'joining, large numbers of Ossis are still angry about how they were treated' Even Ossis born well after the Berlin Wall fell are feeling the same way. They are making efforts to remember their culture. And my biggest complaint is that the old Berlin Wall 'trail' should have been kept a greenway. And sections of the Berlin Wall should have been preserved intact so that future generations could have understood the true power of both the Wall and the Innen Deutschen Grenz. Now, the Wall has been turned into a cuddly plaything and the former Checkpoint Charlie has been turned into a 'DisneyLand'.

Because it was bombed to death in WW 2. If you visit Heidelberg, Rothenburg or Dinkelsbühl you'll see what you are looking for.

In the following years not only in Berlin but all over in Germany's bombed cities houses had to be built within shortest time - but Germany lacked of money, so the less expensive solutions had to be taken.
