Berlin’s Karl Marx Allee: Communism in Iron, Glass, and Marble

The Soviet Union decided to celebrate the historic victory of Soviet Communism over German Nazism by constructing a monumental avenue through East Berlin and dedicate it to the German father of Communism, Karl Marx. Shops, restaurants, and cafes lined the ground floor with spacious and luxurious apartments for workers filled the upper floors.
