BERLIN: “This tax money doping is like poison” - Ulf Poschardt's reckoning with the cultural scene
Ulf Poschardt, editor-in-chief of the Welt Group, sees the planned cuts to Berlin's 2025 budget as an opportunity to increase government efficiency. He criticizes the massive subsidies in areas such as culture, NGOs and administration, which he believes have become unbalanced. Poschardt emphasizes that austerity measures, similar to those in Argentina or reforms in the USA, are not only necessary but also feasible. In particular, he criticizes Berlin's dependence on taxpayers' money and calls for a “trained savings muscle” in order to do justice to citizens and the economy in the long term.
