@@GMahlerVerehrer Indeed. The BPO has a number of vacant principal positions so it's been wonderful to have so many terrific guests in recent concerts. Falk Maertens was the principal trumpet last weekend when Herbert Blomstedt conducted Bruckner's 5th and they gave Andrej Zust the chance to act as principal horn recently as well.

The rare intimacy of the French horn solo, the perfect gradual crescendo, the "tribal" timpanist, the singing sunrise of Frau Clara, the epic organ-like brass harmonies, the sweet strings tremolo, the "old time" elegant and round power of the orchestra, the joyful intellect and humanity of Petrenka. Perfection!

How many of you agree that the conductor was doing his job with all his heart, and not just his genius? The band was unquestionably talented but I loved the way he ended the music with the poise. Hats off to the legends living in another part of the world.

This orchestra is not only the best on the planet because the musicians listen to each other. I don't see this so intensely in any of the big orchestras. Nor the joy that the Berliners have while playing and afterwards. It all comes across as highly concentrated, as it seems that all the sideshows can take a back seat to the music. And I have never been disappointed with Petrenko anyway. He penetrates music with all his senses and clear analysis. His Elektra recently was of remarkable clarity, and at the same time he drove the orchestra to an ecstasy in the last five minutes that I have never heard in this work - not even from Welser-Möst and Solti.

It's my first time actually looking at Petrenko conduct, and I don't yet understand how he makes music sound like magic, but I really like his absolute pianissimo to crescendo on the penultimate bar, matching it with the intensity of his expression.

Fantastic performance! Let me just ask, can you imagine Petrenko at the thrilling climax with a mask on? I know there are rules in different locations, but please, take a cue from Berlin! There are orchestras where the conductor and the strings are wearing masks. Of course, the wind players do not. Unless you can prove that the trombones or the clarinets are getting sick while the violas or cellists remain well, everyone take off the masks!
