Bernard Béguin and the howling BMW M1! 1984 Rally D'Antibes

The 1984 Rally D’Antibes, held on the 12th and 13th of October, was the European Rally Championship (ERC) decider and hosted 1200km of epic stages along the Côte d'Azur in the south of France.
Unfortunately, one of the favourites for the event, Finland’s Henri Toivonen, was unable to compete after sustaining a back injury during the 1000 lakes rally. It came down to a fantastic fight between eventual rally winner Carlo Capone (Lancia 037), who would secure the ERC crown in 1984 and Bernard Béguin in the mighty BMW M1.

A M1 on the road...??? 🤔 Yes, it was possible! 😱 The 6 in-line BMW hasn't got "full open" exhaust pipe on rally, but it sang so good with hells&toes on downshifts, great area... 👍💪‼️💯🏁🏎️🤓

How much hp in rally spec?

From memory, race spec was about 350bhp. They weren't highly tuned, but they were torquey and tractable. Unusual in having mechanical fuel injection too.

@@racecardriverrr4201 It wasn't built as a special stage rally car, remember. It was a GT first and foremost, and built with much longer legs than the Lancias. The Lancias however were much better suited to stage rallying, and being a supercar was a distant second!
