I had forgotten all about this song, then heard a bit of it on a bus, came home and found it online and played it 10 times, it is so brilliant.

"So tell me, am I looking better? Have you forgot, whatever it was that you couldn't stand about me?" - Perfect for a wedding!
@Wimpleman3 ай бұрын
I don't think people listen to and analyse every lyric, especially at a wedding. If it's an upbeat melody and chorus, that's what matters. My wedding song was the only one by the Black Keys. If you analyse it, it's about unrequited love but the setting adds context and so it was a happy song for us and (hopefully!) our guests

He absolutely "gets it". I don't know a single other Bernard song, but I found this song on a 90s Anthems CD and have always loved it. His lack of ego in this interview makes me want to explore his music now.

At the end of July 2019, waiting at Kelvin grove bandstand in Glasgow for Suede to come on and 'Yes' came over the PA System. I was surprised by how many Suede fans thought this was controversial with some voicing concern that members of Suede might not be ok with this. Was funny.

Yes was written to create memories. It's just one of those songs you have a moment with. For me, it was with some new friends late in the night, singing and dancing around the living room. Great tune, fantastic vocals
@dfpguitar6 жыл бұрын
a few of things that really make it a magical memorable tune, are the extraordinary & personable distinctiveness of Mcalmont as a singer, the heavy use of strings creating the archetypical 90s britpop sound (which sends anyone right back to the period) and the unusual form of the song which is balanced with its simple goal of being joyous, uplifting and catchy.

"Yes" is no way his best. Don't get me wrong it's GREAT. But for me that entire album is golden. I am a house and garage, grime , dubstep producer and back then I was just starting out. I heard "yes" then purchased the album on vinyl. I still listen to it today and just 3/4 days ago played the entire album again. For me "what's the excuse" is one of the greatest tracks ever written and obviously "you do". I praise this man and Mc Almont for that album as it's very very special to me

'Yes' is a modern day motown classic, an amazing song and an amazing sound but really people play this at their wedding?! the lyrics are really quite (brilliantly) bitter "you can't help someone recover after what you did" er hello hahahahahaa but nevermind, I hear some people play 'Every Breath You Take' because people are fucking idiots at the end of the day.

Well, he ripped off Phil Spector, of course, that' s how! He's smart not to mention it, of course, name-dropping Scott Walker and Dusty Springfield instead, but 'Yes' OWES HEAVILY to The Righteous Brothers' You Lost That Lovin' Feeling (his father's favourite song), combined with John Barry's 'You Only Live Twice' strings. And Mcalmont & Butler's 'Falling' (2004) is even more spectoresque ( 'Unchained Melody').
@sunny70299 Жыл бұрын
Shut up lmao the music is nothing like You've Lost that Loving Feeling. If you are going to accuse every one who used strings and orchestral crescendos in their music of "ripping off" that piece of scum then you will be there a long time. There were artist, before, during and after Spectors time in the business who did that far better than him.
