A thriller of the ears. A real masterpiece! A tour of several spaces. A piece of pure suspense.

'Fixed media composition' - interesting term, I've never heard of that. What is it? I could just 'ask Google' and probably find my answer, but sometimes it's nice to ask and engage with an actual human!

Ever since he was banished, the creature blindly wondered if the dark twigs of the forest, the speckled sunlight guiding him on his way, he engulfed every sunburn in his shimmering throat as if he had never tasted nor seen such beauty. For even with dirty feet, torn by wandering brambles and a halo of hair that has now turned into a mane, he has found his belief in the setting sun. Eventually, however, this journey came to an end. Not distinct, but with one breath, the blind man knew that the immortal world he had known for all his many years had drifted away from his mortal body. The swamp men and their gem-decorated trees echoing in the breeze, the ethereal handmaids of the earth singing seductive melodies, every bird song he was accustomed to had ceased. He had finally gone to the next world. It was dark in here, and it smelled of the wet and shady valley 🥳

I've been listening to over a couple of hours worth of Parmegiani now. I have quite a varied ear, and I like this a lot - but have no idea how I would describe it. 'Abstract' seems too obvious a term to use, I think it goes far beyond that. Strange - peculiar, but very captivating.

I always thought that Immer/Sound (available here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/g2SygGyaqrGqm6s ) was his final piece. Do you know if he has released anything after this?
@guybrush__threepwood8 жыл бұрын
According to L'Oeuvre Musicale, which is supposed to contain all his works, Parmegiani went on to compose: - Au Gré Du Souffle, Le Son S'envole in 2006 (kzbin.info/www/bejne/l16xaIuVqZKUetU) - Rêveries in 2007 (kzbin.info/www/bejne/r2HKmWqcpJeEnc0). These two, together with Espèces d'espaces and Immer/Sound, are his final works.

It IS Music. In fact this is more musical that the abominations people are used to.
@GiovanniTancrediChan9 жыл бұрын
Se Foda Well he is not wrong when he says it's not music, even though also the "sound effects" definition is utterly stupid. In order to define a piece of sound art as music it should fulfill a series of requirements which clearly are not fulfilled here: the absence of any kind of either rhythmic, melodic or harmonic structure, the complete absence of any musical instrument. I think we should just accept the fact that - as it happens in visual arts where you have painting, scultpture and cinema - also in sonic arts we can have many more different branches other than music.
@CropCircle189 жыл бұрын
GiovanniTancrediChannel It can indeed be considered music if the definition is "organised sound." It is very rhythmic, not all music contains melody (see the classic form of rap which is rhythmically driven absent of any kind of melodic structure) or harmony (in some cultures).
@sickophante74999 жыл бұрын
+GiovanniTancrediChannel I understand what you say but I have to disagree : 1 ) Your examples are not really relevant : painting, sculpture and cinema don't share the same medium : painting is mostly on 2 dimensions, sculpture is in space, and cinema has a temporality. For me that's why they are different forms of art. A better example to argue your point would be performing arts : what we called living arts in France, it's basically theater and dance, and some people do think theatre are two different form of art. And here is my second point : I don't think theatre and dance are two different form of art. 2 ) For me, one medium means one form of art : there's no point to distinguish art of sounds (by that I mean what you call "art of sound" minus what you call "music") and music. The reason is quite simple : those two are mixed all the time! Just search the hashtag "soundscape" on bandcamp and you'll see that plenty of music are using rythm, notes and harmony and are way closer to parmegiani than to Bach or the Beatles. So there's plenty of work of art that can't be called "music" or "sound art". (If you describe a soundscape album as music because it has rythm, notes and harmony, you only describe half of the album) 3 ) So the simplest thing to say is that music is the art of organised sounds : and, conceptually, it's nothing else than that! So it can be pure sounds, without note and rhythm. Know, rhythm notes and harmony are so massively important in Music History, that if you make an historical definition (and that's the relevant one) you have to mention them! Even though it's not only that! Hope you enjoyed my definition of music, and sorry for the english!
@GiovanniTancrediChan9 жыл бұрын
Are you telling me that painting, sculpture and cinema aren't perceived through the same medium which is light hitting our eyes, just as music and acousmatics and soundscapes (which is by the way another separate sonic art) are perceived through compression and expansion of the air on our uditive system? If you think that one medium means one form of art then you should group all of the visual arts into one, since they are all perceived through your eyes. The definition of music as "organized sound" is indeed very valid but as you said it also applies to any other form of sonic art - which doesn't imply that any organized sound is music but that any sound art is organized sound. Consider that that definition was conied by Edgard Varese when pure acousmatics was not born yet. Also you are right about the ambiguity of the definition, but the fact that you can mix pop music with acousmatics doesn't mean that they aren't two separate things, you could even mix pop music and ballet but this wouldn't imply that they are all a single art form.
