The amount of PRESSURE that John constantly keeps on Placido is amazing. You can hear his lungs squeeze and crinkle with his breaths. The 10 finger 🤲🏽 method to get the far side elbow control is genius. I can usually watch one of John’s tutorials 10-20 times and go to class and work it in well.

Love the info about drilling a few techniques over and over again. My first gym put a heavy emphasis on the head and arm choke. We drilled it constantly. Now I find that I will go for some fancier submissions, and when they fail and we end up in a scramble, I inevitably find myself locking in the head and arm.

I think people probably have a fixation with side control because that's where you can start to attack once you pass guard and half guard. That's also where you can transition to mount or the back if you choose, so the fascination might not be necessarily due to preferring it to mount or back.

Also, grapplers tend to prefer side control because side control is a better control to transition to any other control, whereas mount has less transitional options. Side control is a less risky control, as a failed side control has more transitional options. You are welcome.
