This is the standard all modern singers should try to achieve. Great technique, powerful emition and glorious singing, full of true emotions. Raina divine and Capuccilli superb. Good old times so missing these days.

Agreed but have you seen the staging these days? How are they supposed to give all the character when their characters are most of the time doing something that has nothing to do with the original story.

3:20 la signora Kabaivanska risolve il passaggio discendente con estrema dovizia e pulizia. Io conobbi quest'opera proprio con questo cast.

What a brilliant performance! This soprano expresses her desperation with all her being. I'm not sure why many singers insist on holding back. Based on the character in this opera, she must have been very passionate to defy so many. This woman gives it all.

Boy, did Karajan give them a tempo in the beginning! It made me anxious for the singers. But i thought the way he made the second part quite a bit slower than it is usually performed was exceptionally elegant.

I think you're a bit unfair. But I get what you mean. This soprano's sound is not my cup of tea as well, excellent actress though but as far as the baritone is concerned he's got much profundita, a warm and beautiful expressivity so I don't share these views...
