I was a walker for a 80lb female Bernedoodle from 4 months on, for about 2 years (they moved and broke my heart). She was easy to leash train, beautiful confirmation-- It was a joy to watch her run. But, she did have a double coat and was not hypoallergenic. When you start hybridizing you can't always be sure what you are going to get. She was a perfect dog until she got left at the groomers in a crate for too long and then she started running right out of the dog park on me and chasing cats with her buddy the golden retriever in protest. She also would tremble and resist when taken to that groomer again. The owners, who didn't think they would want to at first, eventually bought clippers and started grooming themselves. Because a double coat mats easier, it was essential that she be clipped often. I do recommend for the larger doodles to consider buying clippers, watching lots of education grooming youtube, and going DIY groom. It can be so traumatic for them sometimes AND expensive. Grooming is affection and creates wonderful intimacy and bonding with your dog.

I have a Goldendoodle and it doesn't make any difference to my feelings whether someone considers her to be a "mutt" or a "cross-breed", etc. However, I, too, was pondering the real meaning of the word "mutt" and here is what I came up with: "Mutt" is a synonym for the word "mongrel", which is defined as "a dog of no definable type or breed, especially one of unknown ancestry; one that is not the result of intentional breeding." So I guess that answers my question. I've had both purebreds and mutts in my life, and I don't even have a preference! I do have to add though that purebreds seem to have more health issues in general. As long as a dog is cute, within my price range and has healthy parents, why the heck not! I love my Goldendoodle puppy (she's 11 weeks old), and I'd love to get another Doodle in the future (possibly a Bernedoodle). To those of you considering getting a Doodle of any sort: Be prepared for family members, friends and strangers to completely rave over your pup!
@Sandy335696 жыл бұрын
Hello, Domo! That's a myth that purebreds "tend to have more health issues" than mutts. That may only apply when compared to a poorly bred purebred (and it's still not exclusive). A well bred purebred from a responsible preservationist breeder is way healthier than a mutt. There are no responsible doodle "breeders" and they will never have dogs from responsible breeders as the breeding/foundation dogs so you're already starting off with less than ideal genetics and a higher risk for genetic health issues in these F1 mixes, especially as they hardly ever do extensive health testing as advised.
@LaserrSharp5 жыл бұрын
Why are there no responsible doodle breeders? Can’t someone be a genuinely intelligent breeder that breeds two heathy dogs with genetic certifications? And all dogs were mutts before they became standardized.

She does not shed one bit, is very child-friendly, and extremely well-behaved. That's not to say that other breeds are not like this, but she is certainly the best fit for our family. If anyone is looking to purchase one, I recommend "Angel View Doodles," in Alabama. She was very informative, chooses her parent dogs very carefully, and started the potty training process for us.

Bernedoodles are great, mine is smart and great with smaller animals and kids. Bernedoodles are a mix of a poodles smarts and a berneses worrying. this can make them extremely anxious. mine and others(according to the vet) have had to see a doggie psychologist because of their anxiety. if you are getting a Bernedoodle, there is a possibility that your dog will be like this. make sure you are willing to do some extra training to help with their anxiety.

Kandice Klein It’s been a while since I’ve written this comment and learned much more about my dog and honestly he is so sweet and so well behaved after extra training and some extra care, but a Bernedoodle moved down the street from us and was not properly trained. He was very crazy and in March he bit one of my dogs(the Bernedoodle) and he had to get surgery. Bernedoodles just need so much care and training to become the sweet amazing dogs that they definitely can be. Our dog walker has one and he is well trained and a very good dog, but if they get in the hands of the wrong owners it’s very problematic because they are basically considered designer dogs
@lilycoughlan37234 жыл бұрын
Abigayle Coleman sorry I’m replying so late and I don’t know if this will help anymore, but one of our dogs was a breeding dog(not with us, we adopted her after). She is incredibly mellow and relaxed. She likes both people and dogs and she is very good with both. We suspect that she was abused sometime in her life because she is very reserved and has some interesting quirks. Dogs that are independent are very good parents because it’s likely that a puppy of there’s won’t be as anxious about what humans do. Berners are bred to rescue people which makes them anxious in situations that are not actually dangerous such as seeing someone biking or skateboarding. Breeds that have a good reputation such as labs and poodles , as long as the parents are fit to be bred and good dogs, generally have very good puppies if they are trained correctly

@alv08v393 жыл бұрын
@@CelestialHei Angie, Getting a dog from a reputable breeder doesn’t mean you are getting a show dog. Breeders will have puppies that turn out for showing and some that do not. When we do not we place those puppies in a pet/companion home on a strict spay/neuter contract. So you can still get a companion puppy of the breed you like. I’m not sure who told you that purebred dogs have all types of health problems but that is simply not true and. clearly a very uneducated comment. Reputable breeders like myself health test our dogs. We do not take this lightly. Health and temperament are the most important. I own and show Bernese mtn dogs, A breed I love and take seriously and have been in for years and believe in only breeding for the betterment of the breed. Not cheapening our wonderful breed by breeding it to a poodle..(of all breeds!🤦♀️). All reputable breeders know each other and communicate often. As a BMD breeder we work very hard to preserve the wonderful BMD breed. It is very upsetting when we get calls and emails asking to get a dog from us and breed it to a poodle. Doodles are nothing but mutts they are not worth a thing. When I say that you clearly couldn’t get what I was talking about. Most can. These “doodle breeders” charge thousands of dollars for these mutts. They are not worth a thing. They breed these dogs for profit nothing else. the parents of these dogs are NOT quality dogs. They are two pet quality dogs bred together. Because not a single of us reputable breeders would ever breed our dogs to poodles. Or place a dog with Somone who would. Some People do buy them because they think they are “trendy”. They are not. You can own whatever you want but know the facts of what you are buying first. I told you that and you seem to be upset I told you the truth.

Does anyone have any info about the standard's lifespan that isn't just an average? Like personal experience? I had a standard golden doodle who was my absolute best friend who all of a sudden begun acting sick and died of cancer in one night at only 7.8 years, and the average for them is 10-15. I know Bernese mountain dogs only live up to 7 or so usually, really young, younger than the average of golden retrievers. I know someone who lost their Bernese mountain dog at 3. I just don't want to be interested in something that may not live nearly as long as anyone would hope. Any word on newypoos? Or the Australian bernedoodle?
@kyliecheng6 жыл бұрын
The smaller the bernedoodle, the longer then lifespan. If you're looking at a tiny, I'd say around 12-15. For minis, it would be like 10-12. And the standard ones would be lower. Not sure if this is exactly correct, as it's based on my memory from research, but you can search it up on the swissridge website! I'm getting a mini bernedoodle from them and I'm so excited!😊😊💖

There's no standard. They're mutts. No consistency. There's really not a good way to know except estimating between what the parents were and how well bred they were (never the case with mutts) I would suggest going for a responsible, preservationist breeder of the breed you want if you want to better guarantee improved longevity. There's also so many other aspects involved, but it's a good start.

Whenever you mix 2 pure breed dogs, you are only getting the best genes from the parents. What I mean by that is that if both the Bernese and the poodle were prone to hip dysplasia, the bernedoodle will also be prone to hip dysplasia. If the Bernese was prone to a certain disease and the poodle had nothing to do with that disease, the bernedoodle will also have nothing to do with that disease. Hope this helps!

The idea is the get a dog with the personality of the second breed. Poodles can be pretty high strung but are very smart and have no shedding coats, combine that with the friendly disposition of a second breed and you get a dog that is better with others, including people and typically requires less grooming than a poodle.

Poodles and bernedoodles aren’t the same thing. Bernedoodles have poodle in them, but a straight-up poodle can have a pretty nasty temperament oftentimes. If someone wants a bernedoodle but can’t get one, the best alternative isn’t a poodle but probably more likely a golden retriever.
@Solidrock-jq6rp6 ай бұрын
@@amaraceaI’ve had poodles all my life, some were rescued & I’ve never had problems either them. As I got older & learned more of how to train them, they were super easy. I’ve only seen two poodles that were nasty & both were rescue so you have to wonder how they were treated.

People there is no such thing as a "hypoallergenic" dog. You are not allergic to the fur or hair you are allergic to the dander. All dogs have dander.
@Missioneer7 жыл бұрын
All the term means is that the dog doesn't shed hair. When hair sheds, it spreads dander with the hair, that in turn gets in your eyes etc. With regular baths and a healthy diet, the dog won't have any dander to affect anyone's allergies.

Yeah you're wrong. I'm allergic to most dogs but im not allergic to dogs that don't shed or shed less/are hypoallergenic. I've always had shih tzus and never had a problem... But when in around other breeds such as malamuts or labs my allergies flare up

MIssioneer, that what breeders tell the stupid people who buy them !! There are low shedders but no such thing as a NO shedder, a dog can NOT have the same fur for ever.
@jfrommer61306 жыл бұрын
The, and for EVERY litter dogs are being KILLED in the shelters !! I volunteer for a PURE breed rescue ( a low shedding breed ) and all are dogs are pulled from the shelters...2-3 a week! So people do not need to buy the latest trend in dogs when MILLIONS are dyeing each year.
@jfrommer61306 жыл бұрын
The, FAIR ?? The guilt IS on people who buy and breed contributing to the death of MILLIONS yearly. If someone wants a PURE BREED great, there are rescues for EVERY breed. Have you ever been to a shelter or looked on a web sight ??

I love big dogs, my last large breed was a 180 lb mastiff/dane (rescue) - and now just got a Bernedoodle (large - he's 12 weeks and appx 20 lbs). I haven't had a puppy since I was a pup myself, so lets just say "over 30 something years" {grin}. So potty training has been a challenge - but not sure what is normal accidents, or just a dog that is a difficult breed to potty train, lazy, not the smartest, or just young & needs more time. He seems fine, and does great for a day, and the next day I step in 3 or 4 puddles around the house. 2 days ago, about 30 minutes after his last trip outside, he ran into his crate, right on his bed & wee'd. But the day before that he went every time we went outside, and nothing inside. Yesterday he had gone every time we went outside, but then I stepped in another puddle (not fun in socks), and had no idea when it happened. When I take him through the house to go out the front door for a walk, once we hit the tile, he will just stop & pee. No smelling, no looking for a good spot, just squat & go. (I try to catch him & pick him up when I see him about to squat, but I don't get much of a warning!) It's only been about a week and a half, but I am going crazy, and not sure if it's the breed, the dog, or just time, how long it normally takes to potty train a puppy...? Today so far so good, but it's raining, so that in itself is a chore getting him to even go out at all. Anyway - do I just need to be more patient? Does it take much longer? I hate to say it, but I am SO tired of wiping up pee (then sanitizing the floor), I could scream! I thought I knew what I was getting into, but it really is a LOT more than I thought. *sigh*

This is just a marketing ploy from Swiss Ridge Kennels. There is no veterinary research that these dogs are any healthier than purebred Bernese Mountain Dogs. Swiss Ridge Kennels is also a mass producer of puppies. No quality Bernese Mountain Dog Breeder sells their puppies to breeders who breed Bernerdoodles. Just something to consider when considering a bernerdoodle.

Goat Peter They're mutts bred from poorly bred dogs from "breeders" who aren't responsible, who don't extensively health test, and they're not consistent at all. So why breed them at all if you're not intending on actually working towards an actual breed so you have better consistency in aspects like health?

@@Copyandpasteee292 Yeah but it's proven fact that Doodles are NOT hypoallergenic so that throws your allergy theory away. Sorry. And they also shed. I've seen them shed a lot as they took the lab or golden coat type.
@JewishGay4 жыл бұрын
They are good service dogs! I want one for myself because I don't mind a dog who sheds, but minimal shedding would be great. 😊 I also have been searching for a service dog to train, but do not want a labrador or a golden retriever at this time. I am also not a huge fan of poodles, but I appreciate that poodles and Bernese mountain dogs are recommended as service dogs. To have these two combined gives me a good mix of characteristics even if it is not garunteed. I just appreciate them over all as a good well rounded mix and think that they are very good dogs. I personally want to learn how to groom my dog since it would be a good process, but I would still make sure to work with a groomer and follow all necessary action. Lol. I cannot imagine getting two dogs though at this price 😆. Good for them lol.
@ecparentheses37084 жыл бұрын
@@shalimargrooming333 It varies by dog, and whether the specific doodle inherited the poodle coat or not, and although a doodle might not be AS hypoallergenic as a poodle (which already isn't 100% hypoallergenic), it is far more so than most dogs, which is good enough for the average allergy patient. Speaking for myself, I have very brutal allergies, and my two Yorkipoos have never given me trouble, while a beagle and a lab that my family had as a kid did. So a poodle mix was hypoallergenic enough for at least one sufferer of pretty extreme allergies. It's anecdotal, but a quick Google search confirms that I seem to be the rule, not the exception, but then, a quick Google search is probably more research than you did before flaming every comment on this video with your vitriol. Also, while I agree with your reply on another comment that unethical backyard breeders of mixes are a huge problem that needs to be addressed, it can be solved at the individual level fairly easily by looking into your breeder and making sure beyond a doubt that they are reputable before you buy. Furthermore, while I would love to go down to my local shelter and adopt, as it is certainly the most ethical thing to do, I unfortunately simply cannot take the risk that I will get a dog that interferes with my health, and that is the case for a lot of people.
