How to free up a jammed needle that won't move up and down if oiling your basting finger doesn't solve it.

After searching and searching for a solution, I found your video and it worked with the help of a hammer. I have a Bernina, so I was able to get to it from the top. Thank you!

What did you hammer? I'm quite adventurous with machine innards, but I've never had to go that far.

Thank you so much for this video! I picked a Bernina up at the thrift store, thought I had oiled it well but first thing the needle got stuck down. Oiling it worked! Thank you!

Thanks for this video - I was using my Bernina Record 930 just like in your video. I turned the white 3-position twist-knob (next to the tension guides) on the face of the machine (to see what it would do) and now my needle is disengaged. If I turn the hand wheel and manually pull sh down on the needle bar, it will go down but it’s like I need to reattach something inside to get it to operate. Any ideas? Thanks so much!!

I have a Bernina Artista 730 and the needle bar just seized up mid embroidering. Any ideas how to fix it?

Hi, thank you for your video. I've had my second hand bernina in storage for 15 years. I got it out and did some curtains, it worked, just about, a few broken needles etc. I've just had it serviced by a guy who 'fixes' machines but he hasn't done the basting part which I tried and found does not work. I have seen it is risky to try this as it might make the whole machine freeze up, but it is niggling me that it isn't working. I don't need it right now, as I am going to make a lockdown quilt, but have you ever fixed the basting - extra long stich - function. I have a Bernina 931 Record Electronic. Also, while I am writing, I was told I had a needle down function on my presser foot by touching it with my heel. This does not work, if I pulse down it does one stich, but it still ends up with the needle up. That's a bit inconvenient. Thank you so much.

Ah, no, I've never fixed that I'm afraid. Although now I've said that, what's the betting mine goes haywire now?! The heel function is wonderful when it works properly. So, if you stop as normal but want the needle down, you should be able to heel press once, it should stop down in the fabric, heel press again and it'll lift it up out of it again. I don't know how to fix that but in the UK there is a guy on eBay who sells repair of Bernina pedals. One of my Record 830E foot controllers didn't work properly and he fixed it for me. Might be worth searching 'Bernina repair' on eBay. I hope you find a solution because it's such a useful feature

Thank you for your demo, I just bought a vintage Barnina 1130 a few days ago and although it is perfect condition to know that you are out there and willing to help is great to know. I am interested in free motion embroidery but don't have the open toe foot, I can't afford a Bernina brand one do you have an opinion on the generic beaded ones, and the need for a connector shank on some feet? Thanking you Julia Walker

Hi Julia, I would look out for one on eBay, they come up at a great price sometimes. I don't do FME but I do have an adapter for my feet so I can use other types of feet without the Bernina fitting and it works brilliantly! Hope you enjoy your machine.

I'm having trouble with my 1130. The needle bar won't work in any stitch. I've checked that the basting stitch is not selected and that all the memories are cleared. I can move needle bar by hand easily. I believe a linkage has slipped inside. Is this fixable in your experience?

Having trouble with lowering the pressure foot after many years in storage. Any ideas how to fix? I have some fresh Bernina oil and I do believe it is just stuck.

Hi Rebecca, have you already tried opening the left side of the machine cover and oiling the presser foot bar? It may be that it's gummed up with dirty oil, so you could try dripping a little drop of rubbing alcohol into the bit where metal moves on metal on the bar, oiling it then aiming a hairdryer at the bar to warm the metal as that might allow it to free off. If not, let me know and I'll look at one of mine to see if I can suggest anything else.

How did you get the upper body to open?
@ragdollyally4 жыл бұрын
Hi, sorry for the late reply, only just seem your question. There are two screws you need to push in and twist half a turn, and the upper cover will let you lift it off. The first is on the left side of the top cover and is part of the guide you use to wind a bobbin...the second is underneath the grey part of the top cover which says 'Made in Switzerland', that grey part flips up to reveal the other one. www.manualslib.com/download/1353778/Bernina-930.htmlwww.manualslib.com/download/1353778/Bernina-930.html You might find this useful, it's the service manual.
