This was the piece that violinist Midori famously broke the E string on both her and the concertmaster's violin and didn't miss a single beat!

Keith Otis Edwards i agree,not only this piece but other composers in part its our fault for always listening over and over the same compositions but by different soloists or orchestras,we should look and explore in the music world other composers and then share them with the world

@@commontater8630 Candide and West Side Story. I find most of his 'serious' concert music generally to be pretty uninspired and derivative and I'm not surprised, especially now his centenary is over, that they've hardly become standard repertoire.

It is interesting how the motive that runs throughout the piece also contains the melodic germ that Bernstein also uses for "Maria" in West Side Story (the ascending tritone + half step)

He knew how to marry the symphonic with jazz. The heavenly with the profane. At least we have the videos. This will be relevant music for many years to come, and speaks well of the American Experience

wow crazy time signatures and so many changes! love it. well whoever said a piece should be in only one time signature? thanks a lot. I do really really like it!

It’s great to see the solo violin part and photos of Lenny too. Thanks for that. But for heaven’s sake- have the courtesy to acknowledge who the soloist is!!!! (-The orchestra? Who is conducting?)

I heard that there was a non-commercially released recording with Glenn Dicterow and I'm guessing that this may be it.

What a shame, Mr. HenriVieuxtemps? That the soloist of the recording has to testify that he is playing, while you take his work to get 80,000+ views.

It turns out that this is not me (Glenn Dicterow) playing. I was fooled up until the 2nd movement. I then realized that this person's fingerings are not at all the same as mine and neither is the interpretation. Mine is available online. Sorry!

Really? The piece is not only a derivative but it has Stravinsky and Prokofiev written all over. Lenny was great at detecting other composers plagiarisms. I am surprised nobody told him about his own!
