Hi Bernth, nice exercise but i already play that and even faster (i play like Level 5 but around 130 or maybe 140 BPM but instead of rests i do some hammer ons and pull offs or Power chords and slide between them sometimes) but how do i build endurance at that speed? i can play how i described above for over 2 hours without resting but when it comes to play the Palm muted Low E string more than 6 times i start to feel alot of tension building up at that tempo (my picking motion is literally a circle i developed at the very beginning at 160bpm 4th notes (with a huge diameter), up to 180BPM 8th notes, where i practice non stop playing for 3 mins and made the circular movement 1cm in diameter)

Thanks for the video Bernth. could you please make a workout for downpicking endurance? I can do short burst with ease, but when it comes to constant downpicking I've been struggling to push beyond 100BPM at 16th notes, it goes well for 20 or 30 minutes, but then my arm starts to get a bit tired. Only about 6BPM away from Master of Puppets, so it would be a real help to get an endurance workout

Double up the exercises, do your burst then keep a steady 8th or 16th down picked, then cycle the exercise again. It’s like active resting that helps your body and more specifically your nervous system seek out ways to be more efficient to lessen the stress. The other key is staying as relaxed as possible and controlling your breathing.

Also notice how he moves even at slow tempo. Each movement is only precisely as big or small as it needs to be, everything else is relaxing.

Not bernth, but if you’re getting tired downpicking, I’d recommend you try reexamining your technique! It really helped me.

@@dimavlasiuk4220 it isn't the case here. It's really down to a matter of endurance, I know that because it`s been improving. Up until a year ago, getting a consistent 90BPM was hard, now getting a consistent 100BPM is doable. Downpicking isn't so much of a problem if you are using it in bursts, the endurance really needs to become necessary once you are doing prolonged sessions of it. Master of Puppets is a good example, getting each section down isn`t that hard if done separately, playing the whole song in one go is hard, thankfully there's a bit of a breathing room during Hetfield's solo and some of the slower parts

Lv. 5 sounds a lot like Pantera: Domination. Am I the only one that hears it?

Quick question - why don't you down pick with a closed hand? In one of your other videos you mention that you keep a closed hand for all of your picking.

At the moment I'm trying to get those shredding exercises you mentioned earlier on fixed. Playing slow stuff like Blackmore's Kingdom isn't hard, but when I tried your shredding exercises I found out my alternative picking technique on the right hand and left hand walking in the fret board are a mismatch. So I'm working hard to fix that first before I go to anything else... Trying to get that feeling of match in both my hands especially on high speeds is my goal atm
